A concerned question. Are you saying that our details, email etc can be found on here? Are moderators privy to such information (with all due respect we have no idea who you are). In which case moderators are able to use our private information as they wish?

I don't think anyone 'uses any information as they wish'
I am fully CRB checked with my line of work and don't hide behind a user name.

It does raise an interesting point.
We don't know who the mods or admin are (well most of us don't) and presumably they don't necessarily know us. I'm not saying in this case obviously, but what if someone may have not such great intentions and asks for personal info from a mod and it's willingly passed on? Aren't there some sort of data protection privacy governing it?
I know by some swift googling and lateral thinking it's possible to trace people, look through old posts, Google any names or ads and find numbers etc.. But what do the powers that be on here actually see of the members?

From where I'm sitting im not privvy to any much more info than anyone else. Only an apprentice at the end of the day.
We don't have full access to all the functions.

When anyone registers for an account you supply an email address that the account is registered to. Everyone knows that, as they supply that information along with their chosen user name. You are able in your own profile to hide or display any information you have freely submitted to the site. Same goes for any other forum Facebook Twitter etc etc.

I'm more concerned about so called guests who pretend to be guests but are actually members as they are able to look through my old posts, think they can work out who I am, and use that information to publicly lambast me and my family. I can't imagine any of the mods would use any info in an unethical manner and as Admin says, we have all given this info when we join.

You are able in your own profile to hide or display any information you have freely submitted to the site. Same goes for any other forum Facebook Twitter etc etc. Even if people choose to keep information private on their profile, if they include personal information in a post (eg. Telephone number or email address in a wanted/for sale post rather than asking for pm's), any member can search back through historical posts and see this information. So, in a case like above where you want to try and make contact, any member can search back through posts by that member. If they've included an email address or phone number at any point, that gives you a way of trying to contact them. Google either of those pieces of information and you may find links to their facebook profile, website if they have one, classified adverts, etc. It all depends on their privacy settings and what they have chosen to post publicly. So, it's not a case of moderators breaking data protection but anyone being able access information that someone has posted in the public domain. Think before you post personal details! Perhaps this has been answered within the above but I am not getting it. Can moderators access and therefore use our personal details, even if we choose to hide our details from members? Phillipa, no disrespect but you could tell me you are the Pope if you like.

Again, with all the posts I put about my ponies and the fact I use my own name it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see I'm not the pope!!! And I've already answered your question above!!

I don't quite get what you are worried about or what your point is?

I think the straightforward question it raised with me is obviously we give our basic details when we join, which we may choose to disclose or not on the site. Obviously the mods, admin etc can access this if needed, but I presume they shouldn't pass this on to other members if asked?
I'm excluding the above info, freely available by any of us searching.
After all the nastiness a couple of years ago it made a lot of us question a few security things, not everyone out there are fluffy little bunnies.

No Phillipa I have no idea who you are, why should I. However, that does make me concerned. This is absolutely nothing like facebook or twitter who are governed by all sorts of regulations. Seems to me also that some years ago (before my time) there was a LOT of nasty stuff going on and I have seen moderators and members talking about persons who became moderators but have been 'sacked' as it were.

We don't share information with third parties. The only time we would share information held by the site is by a court order as stated in the site Rules.
