If you are registering for British dressage for the winter season only do you have to register the horse, owner and rider separately and do you pay separately for this? Or can you just register horse and rider without horses owner being BD member? and still compete at affiliated level and qualifiers?

Why not look it up on the bd website instead of asking in here? ? All the questions will be on there membership section Basically you can do a winter season membership, horse and rider need to join, owner needs to join too or be a non competing member, although you can be a free associate member to do prelims, but to do there championships, regionals or area festivals you need to pay Try looking it up yourself

But if you are doing prelim only you just registering as an Associate for which there is no cost. You can also join for £25 and do the new My Quest dressage which is up to elementary only. Why not join the BD forum online and ask all the questions you like, you will be welcomed.
Cut some slack here please chaps, the BD rules are a blimming nightmare even for long term members. People newly interested should be helped and encouraged.

Thanks for the advice. Didn't expect such a reaction from asking questions. I looked it up on bd website before posting here and wasn't sure about it after reading so thought I would ask. I've never done BD so didn't have a clue where to start. Thought this was just a general forum so thought dressage questions would be okay to ask

Of course it is ok to ask waterwillow! Actually the BD rules are changing on 1st December 2015. I don't mean a little or a bit added and a bit taken away, I mean they are entirely different. 99% of the BD membership is confused dot com and there is a thread which goes on for pages asking questions. I don't understand them myself, new rule books are being issued. So join the forum and the rest of us needing answers.
Actually the link to the rules is of little help to you because those rules only apply to end November 2015. The other rude answer shows a ignorance from the poster.

I'm very sorry if you find my reply rude or ignorant, I was actually trying to be blunt.... So many people ask before even trying to find the answer themselves that I find it almost lazy. I looked on the BD website myself to check the correct answer which I gave. Personally I think that's being helpful!!! I merely said the OP should have done that herself rather than asking.... It took me 2 minutes and the answer was clearly there in a logical place
The new rules so not have any affect at all on membership so there's no point in confusing a potential new member just yet!
And yes although this is a horsey forum it is primarily a showing forum, BD have a very very good forum on there web page so why ask here and not there? Or even call BD office and ask. It's a little bit lazy not doing the research first, if the info is hard to find then yes ask away
Good luck, I enjoy dressage and find the BD forum full of helpful and knowledgable discussions, as I do on HG

silvester membership rules are changing and there are now a number of alternative membership levels ranging from Free through to over £80 for one person/horse. Its very confusing, I could find myself in the same class as Carl (not likely but in theory possible). There are numerous championships and qualification routes with more being added and we haven't even got a new rule book yet.
Lots of showing people also do dressage and if I watch a showing class I can tell you exactly who is training following BD guidelines, they are predominantly those up the top of the line. So in my opinion this site is a good place for a showing person to enquire about BD and aren't we all lazy with all these confusing rules?
I am sure you didn't mean to be rude but if people ask a question whatever its about and look to HG members for help, we should be delighted to explain what we can.

I appreciate that rules can be found on the website but I read through them before asking! and I didn't find it clear (some people might find it easy to understand but as a first timer I did not). I downloaded registration forms and knew I could just register for winter to save money but there was only space for horse details/ rider details and as I am not the owner of horse that would be registered I didn't know if it would actually be her details I would have to put into the form, I thought asking on this forum would be a good idea because I have had help previously. It's just the same as asking a friend a question, is that lazy too?
In my view it is the exact same as asking about society registrations such as bsps or nps etc which I have seen a lot of people asking about and have contributed to these discussions so why not dressage. I do show primarily and have done the odd dressage test therefore this is the forum I was used to and felt comfortable asking in, I wasn't aware there was a specific bd forum or I would have asked there. I didn't find your initial comment rude just felt it wasn't very helpful saying "look it up on the website" which I had already done but I do find being called lazy rude when you don't know the whole story.

Hi Waterwillow, my reply, I hoped, was being helpful We don't do dressage, so thought the rule book might be helpful to you Good luck, I know rule books can be a nightmare, we went up to horse classes this year and had to do a lot of reading for BSHA and SHB(GB)
