Since I am inclined to worry constantly about what rug my ponies are in now they are clipped what rugs are you putting on yours at the moment, and are they clipped?

My SP is now roughed off, turned out 24/7 at the mo and I've just swapped her from a lightweight to a stay dry superlite as it's extremely warm come mid day. She's spent most of the summer in a medium weight!!!!!
My Sec A is un clipped and in a lightweight.
I'd be layering if clipped now, maybe a cotton sheet & lightweight through the day with a swap for a medium weight on top for night.

Clipped two Fell s today and they'll live in medium weight turn outs for most of the winter. They are out for a few hours every day and in at night. They are seriously warm ponies though, I don't think they'd be happy in anything heavier than a mediumweight.

Welsh A with his neck and belly clipped out wears a lightweight with neck during the day and a light/medium weight at night also with neck. Will probably up the day rug to a medium soon.

This weather is ridiculous! Two clipped ponies are in fleece rugs overnight and going out naked tomorrow. Two unclipped ponies actually came in from the field sweating and they weren't doing anything strenuous!

My two little ones were sweating this morning when i went up at 6am. The Dartmoor who is like a woolly mammoth just had a fleece on and the b had a medium/light turnout on. Jacob my c I have turned out today in a light/medium weight and I am trying to keep his coat for Olympia but I don't want him to be uncomfortable. He has more on at night. By the looks of it is is going to get cold tomorrow though!

All mine (As and Ds) are out naked and will remain so all winter - but they are breeding stock, not clipped, working or going showing.

Ive removed the stay dry superlite off my SP this morning and left her naked (much to her amusement as she has now rolled in the mud from the rain weve had, she loves getting dirty but isnt normally naked so can't!!) Sec A has just got a cotton sheet on after working this morning as its still quite damp in the air and he was warm so dont want him getting a chill.
They will be back on laterr on, im sure its supposed to persist it down later.

Right, here goes! The weather here in Wiltshire has been an absolute nightmare, they've been out in heavyweights one day and naked the next! It's been very cold and foggy in the mornings, then once the fog burns off it's been quite nice. The sec A and sec B have both just had their last pre Heritage baths today so are wrapped up really warm. After they'd dried enough for their drying rugs to come off they were both in Thermatex's, fleeces and full neck quilts as the stables stay pretty cool. Tonight the B has a lycra body, lycra hood, fleece hood, fleece, lightweight full neck quilt and a heavyweight quilt. The A has a Lycra body, lycra hood, fleece hood, cotton sheet, thin fleece, full neck fleece and full neck quilt. What they're wearing during the day changes almost hourly and don't get me started on what they're wearing in the field, it changes about twice a day! Never thought I'd say this but I'm actually quite looking forward to it getting cold so I can rug up properly without stressing if they're warm enough or too warm!

All mine (As and Ds) are out naked and will remain so all winter - but they are breeding stock, not clipped, working or going showing. Isn't it so much more relaxing knowing they can adapt much better to changing conditions when they're left to themselves! The two hunting ponies both have bib & belly clips but are still naked. The B still has quite a fine coat - I won't clip him any more unless he starts to get really sweaty on a long hunt. The Fell however is a woolly mammoth apart from her clip, and sweats up within minutes of starting work, so she will need full body off before she goes hunting again. She will be rugged once fully clipped, but I suspect will be a hot pony and won't need anything particularly heavy. First winter with her though, so it'll be a learning process for us both. I would always rather have them a little bit cool rather than too warm, as they can cope much better that way.

Absolutely!
Few people seem to realise that rugging disturbs their natural temperature regulation processes. Clipped and working is one thing, but why on earth rug anything that still has it's own natural weather proofing? Even TBs can be fine as long as they have shelter from the wind and plenty of forage to eat.

I'm glad I've come across this. My welsh x connie is fully clipped and slight poor condition coming back from loan. I'm not sure rug wise what to put on as I don't wan lt to over heat her but obviously don't want her being cold.
I have no clue why her loaners clipped her, there was no need as she's not in heavy work and is underweight!
I was thinking a fleece and full next stable, medium weight?
