Well! There seems to have been a right hoohah about the judging this year. Reading the reports in H&H naming and shaming going on. Was anybody an eyewitness to the classes mentioned in the reports? I'd be pretty annoyed if I'd qualified if the judges didn't have full attention on the class. What's the general feeling? I can't remember reading such scathing reports before.

Re: The Supreme pre judging
Certainly the second horse out was not watched by anyone until the rider had completed at least two sides of the arena
Apart from definitely seeing the problem with the second horse I didn't personally notice the judges being inattentive however given the 'different' shows that some of the riders did (cutting short figures of eight, cutting back to the judges, making very small circles) it does seem like it may have been a concern at least some of the riders
The ponies did pretty standard shows but perhaps that's because the riders were not as tuned in to what the judges were doing or know how to react if they had noticed a problem

It was unbelievable - if you were sat at the far side of the arena it would have been hard to see as the judges stood behind the central pillar but neither of them paid attention to a full show & the male judge barely took his eyes off the audience!

It was noted and mentioned a couple of times in horse and hound

Both at HOYS and in the H&H there's comments about the side saddle ride judge who isn't on a ride panel...

I heard that the sp fr class were given a very hard set show with 2 canter circles in it, which put what the larger show ponies and older children had to do to shame
Poor littley's that sounded tough

I wasn't overly impressed with the m&m lr fr judging either! Set a complicated show which caught lots out but sadly in my opinion the ponies who stepped up to the mark weren't rewarded.

Totally! My initial trot out wasn't watched until the end and after a sweet and uneventful show had a mark of 29 lowest ever!! Disappointed to say the least, it's hard work when you plough in so much time and effort

The ride judge for the ladies has competed in ladies classes at HOYS level for a long time and therefore in my opinion is well qualified to judge.

yes well qualified but perhaps age has caught up with her , I gather she had a bad fall earlier in the year and perhaps she had lost her nerve a little .but still very unfair on the competiters.

The lady watched more but he spent a lot of time gazing at the stands with his back to the competitors and not one show was watched all the way through. I took photos it was that laughable. Can anyone who has h and h copy the mentions on to here?
