I did my Cat C in March this year over 4 days I went every afternoon Monday - Weds then had my test on Thursday I drove ours on L plates before so I was used to the size how much room to give on turns etc and practised reversing into tight spaces, I found remembering all the Highway Code the worst bit it's scary how much you forget since your car test

I did my class 2 two years ago. I had to have my medical and pass both the theory and hazard perception tests before I began my practical driving which I assume is standard procedure. I then as S72 says began my driving on the Monday with test on the Friday with one day off I between. It was 4hrs driving a day. I hadn't driven a lorry before but found the driving not bad at all. It was the theory I found the hardest in particular the driver hours and the parts that relate to the driving of an articulated wagon! It's the same theory test for both you see but my instructor pointed me in the direction of a brilliant online learning website that really made it easy to learn. Make sure you get along with your instructor, when I did my trailer test I can't tell you how much I detested my instructor......such a slimy awful man but really got on with my hgv instructor. The funniest part was my first day. Off we go with him driving and he asked if I wanted to get in the drivers seat on this small road "urm no thanks" so he carries on. Then onto a duel carriage way, pulls into the hard shoulder and says in you get. Que me nearly passing out ha ha as if you want me to get in it and drive it here I know there's a massive roundabout at the end of here!!! "Where did you think we were going, to an airfield or something for you have a go?" Yes my friend yes I did! So that was my introduction to an 18tonne 6 wheel automatic scania that was to be my best friend for five days. Despite one tearful meltdown of nerves at home before my test and never uttering one word around my test to my very cheerful test man to my utter relief I passed first time to which my darling husband said "how the hell did you pull that off" charming!

Hi
I did mine in September with Diamond and highly recommend them. They have a spot on Newark show ground where you do all your manoeuvres. I did a course which was 2 days training and then your test I think it was about £1200 but I had sorted my medical and theory myself.
