Yes, #idiotalert. We have a section A gelding 11 this year. Came to us as a companion 2 years ago petrified of people. My daughter has worked her butt off last year gained his trust and they worked really well together. So we decided to enter him into several county shows. For the fun! Decided to clip at the beginning of Feb... I know! NOVICES! He had a massive allergic reaction to the oil hence - now in May his coat is growing back but we still have visable clip lines and an uneven coat (he's grey / TBF pure white)... ANY advice on getting is coat back (besides don't clip him again) would be greatfully recieved.

the same happened with my pony the first year he was clipped - he still looked freshly clipped for ages and when his coat did regrow it was very uneven.
We bathed him a lot, hot clothed with dettol and oil and left his rug off in the warmer wet weather as I have a (possibly quite unfounded) belief that rain is good for changing coats
He did come good but it was June before he looked normal again
Next time I clipped him I used a different oil (and patch tested it) I wiped each section briefly after the last pass of the clippers on that area with a cloth dipped in water with a splash of dettol then washed him off in medivet wash after clipping to get rid of any oily residue on his skin, I also rug very lightly the first night after clipping to let the skin cool and breathe a bit

Thanks guys - yes, expecting it to be June before we get some level of eveness. Bless his heart. Will def patch test if we do it again. Tried the fresh air route but we've ended up with very long and very short patches. Currently using coconut oil and massages - bathing once a week now its warmer. Lets hope this works.

Something to help promote healthy coat growth - if you're getting odd patches due to fresh air and also the season changing, try a furminator or similar to help even out new coat growth vs old coat growth. Alot of brushing, as much as you can bare. Just wait and see, hopefully alot of warm weather and you'll be on your way 😊

When you go to a show keep his rug on till the last minute to keep the coat flat. AS many of the above have said, there is no substitute for elbow grease, the bonus is in increases blood circulation.

Get the rugs off in the sunshine, plenty of grooming and hot clothing and rug well at night. Our grey pony is only just getting his summer coat and only has it for a couple of months (Shetland). Luckily no alergy and no clip lines. Make sure the pony is sparkly clean when it goes out. Good luck
