Hi looking help and advice Horse has started to hang tongue out the side of her month we've her a year and this only started about two months ago. She started it in her jumping bit a US universal when jumping now started it in her dressage bit . She's very strong when jumping and xc . We've tried other bits and even the one with a tongue guard and still she does it teeth have been rechecked 6 weeks ago. Some bits she just hates and others she tiltes her head badly and won't flex left. Any ideas? 🤔

try a French link, she is probably strong as she is not comfortable in her mouth; a stronger bit is rarely the answer as it will give her something to fight against. There was a recent thread similar to this with a horse having a thick tongue. Try to find it and read what was on there. The French link is double jointed with a bonio shaped centre piece which should lay flat on her tongue. If you are not showing or doing dressage you could try a hackamore but make certain the first time is in an enclosed school as they do not always take to one kindly. You have not said how old your mare is as tooth development alters with age, maybe your dentist missed something if this is something new.

At the age of 6 they develop hooks. If she liked the French link but you find her too strong, the best way is schooling; however if you do need a stronger bit then try a Dr Bristols, it is similar with a square edged piece in the middle, make certain you have it the correct way or it is too hard.
With schooling, lots of transition work, circles, with jumping then you need to be very "sane" when you jump her, no charging into fences. lots of pole work and grid work keeping the distances short so she has to slow herself, if she is anticipating school around the fences, do not make very session a jumping one so she only jumps when you want to. Make certain that after a fence you bring her back to a walk, reward her, take things slowly. She obviously likes jumping... or is stressed by it, a total opposite I know but it is going to be one or the other. Had she been jumped before you had her?
Anyway I hope these help, I am away at the mo but if you need more help I will have time next week if you message me.

If she has a thick tongue it can be a breathing problem. As gillwales says, schooling and transitions up and down to slow her down. Don't go for aan even stronger bit. Good luck
