How to keep a very busy Welsh section A amused in the winter months when she can't be worked anymore but previously loved her job and loved her work. Ideas anyone?? She's being very lively lol.

Hang up toys for her to play with, my boys used to like plastic watering cans, keep a radio on, hang up a swede. Is it that you no longer have a job for her or that she has health problems? If the former consider putting her on loan.

She has health issues so can't be ridden. I tied a swede up tonight and she has a lik it thing. She does get to go out but she has a busy little mind. As for 'turn her out' I have tried. That was my first port of call for her to go and live a lovely life as a pony being a companion on 12 acres. Pony had other ideas in the fact she was bored even in the field ended up rooting in the hedges and with an eye ulcer! Broke the brand new fencing ect ect ect. Plus she had to go over an hour away as there is very little winter turnout (as in living out) yards near me. Have to say travelling an hour and 20 minutes each way 3 times the week of xmas due to an ulcer and waiting for the vet, fitting that round work was not easy so not like I didn't try the obvious option.

Shame! Most love to be out, preferably with company.
I'd check the lickit thing for sugar content, I believe they can be very high in it which would help to wind her up. If I have one on box rest I chuck any suitable fruit and veg peelings into the bed for them to root around looking for, or how about one of those balls with holes in with forage cubes in?
What about teaching her work in hand or at liberty if you have the time and facilities?

She had company in the field. A couple of other horses and a few sheep. She was ok for a couple of months. She went in September when I found out about her heart and came back in between xmas and new year. She was being rather naughty. She has a lik it a week if that. I have a ball that was my old lads she has that when she comes in at dinner time. She isn't on box rest she goes out in the paddock with 3 others for a play for a couple of hours in the morning then I walk her out or put her back out at tea time (most the time she stands at the gate trying to get her feet stuck in the gate lol) It's such a shame as she looks amazing and feels very well obviously and I'm so use to having mine in show condition and doing something which she was up until September she was out competing and winning and loving it. She is how ever very spoilt so might be my fault that she acts rather bratty!

have you thought of giving her a non horse companion, maybe a sheep or a goat? Also leave a radio on quietly during the day. You need a good handyman who could think up a puzzle for her to work out to get titbits I'm glad she liked the swede

She has another pony opposite about 4 ft away and a barn of sheep across the way. She's out with 3 others when she does go out. She also has a tea towel in her stable she likes whizzing that around and her buckets gets a good play with when she has finished her tea. She has a salt block hung up which she isn't so keen on. She's just a busy minded little welshie. Wish the hacking was better but it's right on a busy bypass or I would just walk her forever more til she was tired on the long reins. She has a massive murmur and hole in her heart so that's why she isn't safe to ride now unfortunately try telling her that tho?!

Sec A's can be little horrors lol, looks to me that you are a good Mum. If she is enjoying doing her naughty tricks then let her, quality over quantity, don't have regrets if her heart gives up.

No if she ever starts getting poorly I know what to do. She will never leave my ownership. It would be easy for me to do one of 'those' adverts. Free companion ect but she would end up being sold as you seriously wouldn't know there is anything wrong with her. In fact I'm sure some think I have lied but two separate vets from practices miles apart can't be both wrong. She does make me laugh but just wish I could explain to her why she isn't ridden anymore.
