I felt for the reserve champion in the Kilmannan Silver medal in hand final as the Champion had already qualified and still took the qualification card and sponsors rosette. According to the NPS rules, this should have been passed down.
The champion had already qualified at NCPA Notts and Lincs on 19th April by being reserve supreme M & M as on that day the champion couldn't produce their card.
It's a real shame, when competitors do this. I know there has been a thread about this before, tickets not being passed on.
Can the NPS do anything about this?

Hi Silver Medal, thankyou for your concern, I have been in contact with the NPS and they are passing the qualification card etc to the reserve champion.
Gemma.

At NCPA Notts Lincs the judge gave the Silver medal rosette & card to the champion Dartmoor but they were approached after the class as they were waiting for their NPS card in the post & of course didn't show it in the ring so the qualification was taken away so nobody got the Silver Medal qualification. I think you should get your facts right before you post!!

Don't know as it can only go down to 1st reserve if they are members. You can receive as many Silver medal rosettes throughout the year if you're lucky enough to win them as long as you show your NPS card in the ring but the Kilmannan sponsors rosette goes to the qualifying pony along with the qualification card. In other words ,if you are Champion you can receive the Silver Medal rosette only & pass the rest down. Clyde qualified at The Scottish Horse show on Aug 9th 2008 but we realised when we got home last night that we had a 2009 silver medal qualification so Gemma rang in her lunch break to explain to NPS. So she isn't taking 2 qualifiers.Hope this explains it.

Quote from NPS X1 rules in page 2 of schedule. " If the champion pony has previously qualuified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal rosette but the qualification card goes to the reserve champion provided the owner of that pony is a member of the NPS. "

" Couldn't agree more - glad you know the rules and have decided to hand the qualification card back to the NPS and to pass it down to its rightful winner. You can win as many silver medals as you like but you must not keep the cards as the NPS rules dictate.

No Kilmannan sponsor rosettes were given out in the In hand Silver medal championship so we didn't steal one of those either!

Can't understand why you need to go forward for the Silver Medal if you've already qualified!!! Perhaps it's an ego thing!!!

This shows that the necessity to have to "Qualify" for just about anything has taken over our brains.
To clarify, if a pony stands section champion or class winner at an NPS affiliated show which offers the NPS Silver Medal Rosette - then it automatically goes forward to the Championship IN WHICH THE SILVER MEDAL IS PRESENTED. Bit like an Interbreed Championship for cattle or sheep.
Wether or not the animal has qualified for the NPS Championships at Malvern, is is entitled to contest this Show Championship - indeed it would be downright disrespectful if it didn't.
So, to 'why go forward', does that answer your query??

It was never in doubt that the pony should contest the silver medal, in fact it is a stunning pony and a deserved winner of the medal.
The only issue was the qualification card which needed to be passed down to the reserve.
The reserve pony has been given the ticket now which is wonderful. They are new members of the NPS, with a homebred pony, so it is superb that the 'newbies' are encouraged to compete at the final as without new blood our societies would become very stale.
Good luck to all that have qualified for the in hand final and may the best pony win.
