Just got to through to the stud. They only have 3 yr olds left. They kindly offered to find me a horse, but said it would cost around £12,000 to £15,000 for one suitable for dressage.
I am going to have a lie down!

Just tried a really fab mare. The owner said she may or maynot have sweetitch, so thought it worth a look. She was amazing to ride and I didnt want to get off. Quite "tricky" but I really got her, and given a bit longer, would have had her where I wanted. I love mares like her, who are independent and "alpha mare", who need to be kindly, but firmly told who is in the driving seat. She was really fab and I think, soundness continuing, could go really far.
However, she had "very severe sweetitch", which clearly the owner DID KNOW, as she wears a Boet rug in the stable, which is in an indoor barn, with no windows. She even wears the full Boet head peice, in the stable as well as outdoors. She still shows signs of rubbing on her mane and tail. The trainer, who was just lovely, was much more open about her symptoms and describing how she is such a sweet heart, despite being constantly itchy and sweating up under the Boets, when its hot. She even had her foal wearing a Boet and suckled it too, with it on.
Now as much as I loved her, would I pay £10,000 for a 4 year old, uncompeted mare, with sweetitch.........SORRY BUT THE BRAIN SAYS NO......despite the heart telling me how lovely she is. What a shame. Sorry to anyone with a horse with Sweet-itch, no offense meant, I have had 2 with it and loved them both. But would you knowingly spend a lot of money (or it is to me anyway) on one with this problem? I asked myself, would I prefer one without sweetitch and the answer was YES every time.
The search continues........

That is a serious ammount of money for a horse with sweet itch. Its a very distressing condition - dont think I would ever really buy one with it (especially at that price !!!)

Highhill, thanks for that. Dont want to seem picky or anything, but vets always told me "dont buy a problem, as enough will arise anyway......" LOL.
Still trying to arrange some viewings in Ireland, if can get the price reasonable. A few days in Ireland sounds good fun to me and hubby can come "for fun too"....... ha ha
Also, another nice mare in Notts. Its not flashy or WOW, but it does everything and would be a sensible buy £7500.

sounds good and you'd get some change from that one!! dont blame you for not buying sweetitch one, we had one and loved him dearly but very distressing for him and used to make me cry watching him scratch, didnt matter where you put him, what rug we used, potions lotions etc he was still bad, used to want to get down for a scratch with kids on!! never did though but he tried bless him x

Assume you want something that's backed -- if not I know of a really nice 3year old gelding by Negretto (Carl Hester's lovely stallion-now RIP).
PM if you are interested

How about the one just posted by Turtlepooch in the 'other disciplines' section. Sounds nice. horsegossip.proboards.com/index.c....ad=25749&page=1 She came over from sweden and was previously sold for a hell of a lot of money. She is in staffordshire. Airport and train station very close. Daughter would even pick tou up. but she will not sell her to anyone. You have to be a good sensitive rider.

Sorry guys want 4 years to 6 yrs. Thanks though x
The other mare I was looking at was just not quite up to BD standard. Lovely allrounder, but if I am going to continue with BD, then has to be up to the job.
Now waiting for photos from Ireland and photos from Bolton, to see whether to fly North or South.....

Lovepink, have you spoken to Andrew Gould as he is near to us? Not necessarily the ones on his web site, but he will know of any that are for sale amongst his contacts or his clients.

Havnt spoken to Andrew, as presumed his horses all be in the "massive price" bracket? You kind of feel "inferior" telling people you only have up to £10k to spend. To the proper dressage types thats like saying 10p isnt it LOL

Absolutely don't worry about that. Andrew teaches at all levels and holds monthly clinics at our riding club, totally down to earth and a very honest guy, he will tell you like it is and he can't afford expensive dressage horses either! Surprised you are not a member of WBRC as they are really into the dressage side, great clinics/demos and super junior team.
I am sure the horses on his site are mega bucks (there are all prob still abroad), but he will often get horses in to sell or he will have lots of contacts in this country or horses his clients tell him about. It is worth an email if you get the address off his site.

Off to see a lovely mare tomorrow. Nativeponies, do you remember me saying that if I could find a 16 hh version of my section A, I would be very happy? Well that comment may have come back to bite me on the bum! Maybe I should take a back-protector with me LOL
My section A was a dapple grey mare - stable name Lilly (spelt wrong I know). This mare tom is a 16hh dapple grey - stable name Lilly (also spelt wrong). How funny is that? My lorry still has "Lilly" written on its side, from the section A, as too superstitious to get it removed...!
Spooky? May all amount to nothing, but worth a try, so fingers crossed for me!
PS, she would look lovely dressed in Candy Floss Pink too!
