Will Start a post mortem before anyone else does Thank you for bearing with us during traffic problems and a very busy day, we knew traffic would be heavy and had given some warning but lets just say other than my off duty police lady who was excellent when the verbal and physical abuse of my gate people started due to us having to turn public away so they decided to try and ram raid our gates instead, the police were USELESS !!!!! Also thank you for bearing with us during ring changes for the Novcie Hunter & Hack Cobs and riding horses, we will be altering the time scales again next year but then may end up with empty rings etc as you cant plan for what will come and what wont, just our Side Saddle Classes are so strong they need much more time. Photographs are up on here www.equipics.co.uk/gallery.tlx?containerid=83235prize money to thoes eligible that got a card to tell you you were eligible and it would be sent ( even though many turned up at the tent and hadnt read the card hehehehe !!) hopefully within 28days as the new treasurer is amazing but her workload will start next week. Sadly i had a few stewards couldnt get in and let us down, which again luckily i had others come and help out who were super, Once results are listed if you spot any errors let me know, we are only human and ring sheets can get the wrong ones written down occasionally, Also royal London Cards & Showlands, if you were in the first 3 and didnt get your cards also some NCPA ones here that i will sort, once entries are done and i can verify them you are welcome to get them, there are also a few other bits and bobs that got missed, the ROR coat/ rug vouchers i am hoping are in the folder, i have found the NS Silver Medal Rosette for the Young Lady ( being heavy it slipped out the packets), and have a gelding rosette and a couple of trophies to have forwarded on to people who missed the trophy collection. The Champion of the M & M Heritage WHP Classes had a new sheild donated, also the NPS Mini Championship Ridden M & M also have a sheild so once i find the champions i will contact you if you would like them for a year, they didnt appear in the schedule this time. not found any lost property yet, will check everywhere today as need to gut the marquee. Hope you all had a good day though am expecting cpmplaints about traffic etc but when its beyond my control and we did delay for a small time, what can i do, i did advise it would be busy and we are located beween 2 villages, we were unaware of Motoway problems until brought to our attention, but also i know many were stuck for an amount of time, but at 8am everything was fine so maybe set off a little earlier last year if you did miss your class, sadly with 800 competitors you cant hold the classes up for individuals. Hope you are all ok and not doing a lobster impression like me !!!! Will update on accident details when i have some of the poor lady who got knocked out by her horse in the lorry park ( not the spit fire caused it thank god !) Hope you saw an improvement in the horse section for 2009 we try to getbetter each year it is a slow process but we like to think we move with the times and the haflingers & cleveland bays didnt disappoint and will be back !!!! Well done to all winners etc, got to see some of you but again i wish i had a pedometer on as i must have clocked some miles yesterday. Thanks to all my team especially my other half Richard who worked so hard yesterday, Danny ( the eye candy as Medic calls him) who was super, David my vice chair who iis excellent in the tent when im up and down like a loon, Aaoron & Josh who worked very hard with richard and aged 16 & 17 didnt need the verbal abuse at the gate once we closed to the public ( that was a main show decision and not mine !) My Mum & Co for the buffet, All of my judges who all were exceelnt considering the heat, we hope you enjoyed yourslf and may return for another section of classes in the future, stewards old and new ( not old as in old !!!) But the new stewards who really got stuck in and had a real good go, all the judges complimented you !! And the nice compettors who were pleasant, nice and paitent, Open to suggestions and will again tweek the schedule for the future and bring you an even better show in 2010

Gosh can't believe how thorough you are EmmaJane. I am sure if there was a competition for best-organised, most efficient and friendly secretary you would be up there. No one can blame you or the show for the traffic - just one of those things.

We had a fab day thank you. Commentry was good and we could hear it from the lorry park - only 2nd show this year who has managed that!
suggestions for next year are bigger rings for the ridden classes - ring 9 was tiny for lots of hairy coloured ponies to try and get round and any chance of Maybe doing what lincoln does and make the road one way only with a diversion? It took us an hour to get off the showground and then a further half hour to get back to the main road. It was jammed in both directions. And we left late after 5pm. There was noone organising the cars getting out of feathers and birds entrances and gate 5 and cars were just ramming their way out and getting thoroughly fed up.
I am not blaming you for traffic problems at all (and nothing you can do about the motorway and donnington park etc) but traffic on the road immediately outside the showground was also a nightmare so may be worth liasing with the police? If you made it one way you could use both lanes to get people back to the main road and out much quicker?
just a thought

lRe the rings we are tight on space but the pans had measured the field wrong now we have a better idea of the true size and where we are allowed certain boundaries on the field we do try but sadly we only have so much space, The police dont get me started they refused to attend even with payment !!!!!!!!! We had 2 PCSO !!!!! Not going to get into highways agency or police details as we are very cross but they seem to let The Moto GP take over, we have always been 4th sunday in june and would clash if went any other date, please keep the constructive critism coming in we do discuss it all and take it seriously to try and improve.
One thing i will say is no matter if i changed the time table, ring sizes etc, we will never satisfy everyone, as then we may well end up with huge rings with no entrys much rather smaller rings and split you for the go rounds etc.

Talking of rammng their way through we did nearly have a horrible incident with a woman trying to run down my other half insisting we let her in the horse field with no pass, and cars following horses boxes in with no passes, 1 pass one vehicle, thats the way it is and we will be even more prepared next year ! VOSA didnt get in if they were on their way either lol

Emma - we had a lovely day and the problems that were caused throughout the day weren't down to the horse side of the show. It was the sheer volume of traffic - mostly daytrip cars - not horseboxes and trailers! I agree with the suggestion of a one way system though. They do this at Cheshire county show and whilst it is a pain if you want to go the other direction it doesn't take long to get back on your route again and it is a lot quicker than totally blocking the road in both directions. All of the stewards and judges were lovely and helpful - especially when we were getting "bombed" by the spitfire.
I know that the weather was exceptional this year but another suggestions - could we have a drinks/sandwich vendor near to the lorry park? We were parked virtually right at the back of the lorry park and it was a good way to the nearest trailer selling the food and drinks at the other end of the horse area. When you can't go far for fear of missing your call for your class it is not good when you need drinks etc!!! We did bring supplies but by the time our classes were going in we had drank them all!
We shall definately be there again next year. Please can I have the same judge!!!!

Hi Karen pm re cards answered re the drinks van it was put to the catering person to have one there but they were concerned that they wouldnt have as much trade as the others higher, I will suggest a one way sytem but can imagine it would upset the villagers etc, and not sure how we go about it, we did have great judges yesterday, a few may disagree but i do only give them one 1st place to award so someone has to be at other end of line up sadly

Ditto above praise Emma, very well organised. Many congrats to all your team. One idea if room, why not have the rings stretched the lenght of the hedge and ridden one end and in hand the other, it is a hell of a walk specially if you have a mare and foal or ponies that follow on in classes. Also maybe the welsh start earlier, only suggestions but if they help in any way. Was glad we stayed for gelding championship but we would have been long gone if we hadn't stayed to watch a friend of charlottes in the coloureds, by then the traffic was at a standstill for miles so we decided to wait and then heard a 20 min call for the gelding ch so we got poor Jasper ready again and took res.

am looking at a reshuffle of classes next year, see a pattern now of which rings tend to be fuller than others, we cant run full length of hedge due to public and thoserings are primarily ridden and larger horses that have to walk the horse walk, no foals should be in 8 9 or 5 or 6, unless you happen to have a coloured miniature We do like the layout and are able to see what is happeneing while keeping public central. Glad you stayed knew you would be pleased if you were champ or reserve as i think geldings need promoting and will do sashes where i can for them ( though i havent won one in a gelding cham yet with char ) Jasper looked super x

I know you can't please everyone - its an impossible job and am not being critical just trying to make helpful suggestions. Ring 8 and 9 were definitely too small for ridden classes - you couldn't gallop on a large coloured easily at all.
Just a thought - could you put a central walkway down the middle of the rings so you could gain more room that way by having rings right up to hedges maybe?
re the traffic situation most big shows employ a one way system and although the villagers may not like it they get the traffic anyway and surely they would prefer it to move rather than sit outside their houses for hours on end revving engines and everyone getting hot and bothered? It is after all for one day of the year not every weekend. And you'd get twice the number of lorries and cars out that way (and in as well since inwards makes the money!)

Hi Emma, agree you and your team did a great job. Can i just say the horse walk to ring 3 and 4 i think was used by more pedestrians than horses who didnt seem to want to walk a little further so dont know if anything can be suggested on that for next year?

The only thing that did worry me was all the show visitors in the horse walk. I had several little toddlers walk up behind my pony and pat her on the bottom, followed by a smiling mum with pushchair who wouldnt have had a clue. I can see the attraction to my pony as she is uber cute and also totally spitfire proof so wasnt worried at all about the saftey but I know there where horses there that arent so toddler friendly. Possibly for next year there should be a horses and attendants only sign made as clear as day, I know the announcers kept saying it but I dont think some of the public were aware of what it meant by keeping out the horse walk.

They were told to get out the horse walks and not be in there with allmost constant calls regarding it, i even asked for some to move personally but to no avail, We are not going to have the walk up the middle, it was like that and people would sit and picnic up there, what can we do to move them, we constantly gave calls, the public are a pain in the ass to be blunt and honest and quite ignorant, its like yes we are talking about you now move !!!!! They really ruin it, if i had the man power i would have a steward on that walk way clearing people, as soon as we can move the trade stands up onto the top field, people will have no excuse to even enter the horse walks.
Sadly with the amount of classes some rings have to be smaller, until i secure more land not alot else i can do and looking at some shows they are also bigger than most menarges and OH can give you exact dimentions.
If i put them to the hedge where do iput the public who are or should be up the middle, this will be passsed onto the ring manager but only so much you can do.

hi emma well done honey i can only imagine how much hard work you have put in, a lovley show and even my horse enjoyed the spitfire above our heads and loads of people laughing at her !!!!! The road congestion was not good,I thought my horse was going to colic as we were queing to get off the ground (hour and a half) to get back to the main road!!!!!!!!! But this can not be helped by yourself ps i was the unnamed grey who went into the main ring to do side saddle display !!!!!!!!

carrying on from the horse walk problem, why not have the stands, where was Risley alongside the hedge instead of in the middle, thats where people head for and congregate and I hate to say its an accident waiting to happen. You only need one horse/pony to flip its lid and it would be mayhem, there was a palomino stallion, I think, that did scatter a few people but luckily no one got harmed. This is only a suggestion and not a go at anyone Emma but hopefully help in your revamp.
