Did anyone go? I did & got the following:-
1st - Ridden PBA - Africans Pride 1st - Novice show pony n/e 148cms - Africans Pride 1st - BSPS Int SRT - Africans Pride 2nd - In hand PBA - Africans Pride 2nd - In hand unusual coloured - Africans Pride 2nd - In hand show pony - Africans Pride 2nd - Ridden youngster - Africans Pride 3rd - Ridden Unusual Colored - Africans Pride 4th - Ridden pony - Africans Pride
Reserve In hand coloured Champion - Africans Pride Champion non uk breed/non native In hand - Africans Pride Champion BSPS Intermediate - Africans Pride
Had a great time & was really please with my boy especially in the evening performances.
A little disappointed with some of the organisation & there were no sashes in the classes as advertised. Evening performances seemed to be rushed through & sunday's were a total shambles with people being sent in wrong ones & the running order being totally different from the one printed in the schedule with no announcements made to advise of the changes.
Understand totally the work that is put into a big event like that but dont think they should advertise sashes for classes and not provide them, im not bothered about not getting them but the little children probably were. Thought the plaques for the class winners were a nice idea, but again they ran out of them and even when they had them they werent being given out in every ring, you had to go ask for some of them & some people didnt know about them, myself included at first.

We went and the judging was a total shambles! Also no flat warmup........loose dogs, fighting dogs at the side of the ring, rings being held up for latecomers and them being placed at the top (was always taught if you were late you expect to be dropped at least 3 places) - need I go on? Last time we are going that's for sure

Did not go to show, but must query your bizarre statement that you automatically drop 3 places if you are late into your class!
If you are accepted into the ring, then you are judged the same as everyone else.
The REAL version is that you are allowed to enter the ring whilst the class is walking round. When the class sarts trotting, then no more horses are allowed into the ring to compete.

There is one solution to this lateness problem, once the ring has been closed(ie the gate/rope closed) nobody should be allowed in no matter who they are! This rule of being allowed in when the class is still in walk is no good as I have been in rings where we have had to walk round for ages in order to allow others to come in.

There is no rule that says you will be dropped for being late, I was simplyy commenting I was taught that's what to expect if you ARE late! And, as for the walking round with the gate open until the favoured one deigns to turn up (late) - yep! Several classes were in walk for around 15 laps of the ring waiting for certain people

Princessv - this show used to be held at harrogate at the great yorkshire showground but got taken over by the festival association last yr i think it was.

Its a championship for local riding club, we went last year to the one held at the GYS the sashes were fantastic and the timetable run to perfection however it is generally for those placed at your local riding clubs and we didnt think it was fair to go in this year having only competed RI and Hoys classes. Have to say though the sashes were fabulous, my lad took novice section reserve and pairs section champion last year so we got 2.

I think it's what used to be the festival of champions, but due to a disagreement somewhere along the line, they aren't allowed to call it that any more, they are known as the festival association, if you google it you should find a website with info.

The festival of champions was always the one held at birchinley manor in oct that was run by melvyn jones. when he passed away it got taken over and then the name got changed slightly and more shows were added and it has become known as the festival association with varying championships throughout the year. They still have the festival of champions logo on things but also have festival association as the main name.
It isnt just for local riding clubs, you dont have to be a member of a riding club to compete at the ultimate showcase, nor some of the other champions they hold. the one in oct you do as that is the same format as the old festival of champions. The qualifiers are for the Ultimate showcase before it was taken over and now are at riding clubs, doesnt mean its any less a standard though.
Preferred the show at harrogate to this one though.

Not the point i was making that it was any lesser show it was very well supported last year and the standard was fair. I have to speak in defence of the poor lady who was trying her upmost to organise the show. Mrs Bertram. Most of the people in the secretarys office seemed to be working against her, and the man who was supposed to be behind the show didnt even have the manner to turn up and help . Mr Gardner. I think she did well with what help she had.. It looked to me that they wanted her to fail, but she put up a fight..well done...

hopefully if Mrs Bertram takes it over there will be more publicity and be even better than it was this year, fab show fun and very pleasant people running it.

The USOC was the original brainchild of Cathy Bertram, she started it all the GYS ground. The events were brilliant and gave the everyday rider the chance to ride on the GYS ground. Rosettes, sashes and trophies were fab. They also used to do a bursary - riding clubs could nominate members to be eligible for this. Things kind of started going wrong the year that Calamity Jane (cob) won this and it didn't end up getting paid - Sam (cant think of surname) went to horse and hound with the story and things kind of went down from there. I think lots of things were going on and bills were high to run at GYS so it ended up being taken over by the festival association. I know neither Cathy or Steve personally but I am told that there is no love loss between them. Cathy retained rights over the summer championship but based on what I have heard I doubt she will be there next year which is a shame as she has put a huge amount into it. I do think that they need to look at the rules a little on this as I have heard lots of rumblings about some classes in particular the first ridden (Ishall name no names) but the little girl who won has been doing this class for 5 years and showing at county level - hardly what constitutes a first ridden ! think shows need to be really carefully with this class and deter the pot hunters ! Sorry for the high jack Well done Dizzydora thats an impresive set of results
