There was an incident on Saturday that several of us were pleased to see - a very well known obviously over height cob was not called into the top ten because it was over height. The lady came back in on the horse to question the judges during the prize giving and was sent out, and was later seen arguing in the office about the points sheets. Finally, judges have stood their ground and not placed someone who was obviously trying to cheat. i 100% agree with you teabag!!!

A huge congratulations to the Champion and Reserve, brilliant to see you there last night Cayo and yes being the other In Hand competitor did feel we were left out a little!!!!!! After a four hour drive in terrible weather it felt a bit unfair to have one trot up in a difficult place. I also agree there should have been 2 judges especially when 2 were stated. IMO three judges are a better number!!!
Everybody was very friendly and helpful and enjoyed our night!!!

me too teabag!! i had a great time doing ridden pairs with my friend on sat night only to have it taken away by someone commenting on festival guest book that we were on wrong leg... and should not have won it.... i dont think we were but if it is the case does it really need to be brought up again... thought pairs was supposed to be a bit of fun. all the competitors were fantastic and enjoyed it!
anyway if it makes someone feel better then so be it....
ps it was halloween and there seemed to be alot of green eyed monsters around during most of the classes ha ha

Just out of interest can someone please pm me the name of the overheight cob and I think it is great that judges are finally taking a stand with the height situation.
My cob was so adjatated in the Supreme of country we got there late and it was all a bit rushed fo him and he doesnt do rushed so we had an un happy chappy on my hands. Well done to a worthy winner, beautiful horse.

Had a fantastic day on sat (31st), 1st in hand veteran, reserve section champion! 1st inhand Arab, 5th ridden arab and top ten ridden veteran. I was very proud of him, I had a few people go out of their way to come over to us, to congratulate us and compliment on how well he looks and moves for his age. Which was really nice! Very well organised this year, all the staff were very helpful and still smiling after 14+ hour day! Well done to every one!

He has a height certificate and in my opinion I don't think it was down to the festival to not place him because they thought he was over. Whats the point in having the height certificate in the first place??

He has a height certificate and in my opinion I don't think it was down to the festival to not place him because they thought he was over. Whats the point in having the height certificate in the first place?? Surely it is up to the judge to make that decision - That conformation judge is a stickler for heights in cobs - he had measured on himself where the maximum height comes to, and could clearly be seen measuring several of the cobs against that 'marker'. Lots of people were commenting how over height it was before the class went in, and once in the ring it made everything else look tiny. If the maximum height is 155cm and horses are clearly over that on the day, he is well within his rights not to place them, and good for him!

This reminds me of doing M&M pairs last year at the Spring FOC. My daughter and her friend were riding our little Shetties on LR with us mums leading, and we won the class and then took Pairs section reserve champions. We entered the class for some fun, although took it seriously enough that the kids had matching jackets, matching ties etc. Oh and the ponies are mother and daughter, so well matched even though one is white-grey and the other dark bay... Comment heard from the gallery along the lines of, "They shouldn't have won, the child wasn't capable of maintaining a contact". For goodness sake, my daughter was 4yo at the time, and her friend was 6! It was one of the highlights of our showing career to date, so much fun to do, the girls had such a giggle and the sashes were as big as the ponies! Pretty rubbish pictures as the lighting was so poor...

Thank you both - we had loads of fun doing it, and the snide comments didn't spoil our evening - fortunately the kids were oblivious to it all! Hope the comments on the guestbook haven't ruined it for you Melons - as you say, the Pairs classes are for light hearted fun, it's not as though there's a HOYS ticket at stake, lol! Well done everyone on the fab results reported here. I did enjoy being back at Festival after missing last winter. Maybe we'll see you in the ridden pairs in future Melons - 2011 will be our target year for that, as I will hopefully have both my black standard Shetlands (full brothers) out under saddle, so Pairs will be a must

I must say everyone seemed to enjoy the festival on all wk ends i was there. I had a great wk end with mine on sat and sun. I was made up with my pure bred arab on sat winning the ridden, arab championship and reserve supreme on sat. The atmosphere was great as the day went on and he went out of his skin in the supreme there were some snide comments made about him and my self which i am unsure of but would like to thank the person who stuck up for me. even tho the weather was awful on sunday everyone still made the effort which is always good to see and just want to say well done to everyone who competed and all the festival staff and judges

She can go out and have some real fun now
