Re trad under 148cm class, I thought the real traditionals were very hard done by.
It was almost all natives in the final line up. I think the time has come for a split in these classes into natives and traditionals, as the poor traditionals are getting squeezed out by the more extravagant moving native types.
Off to put my traditional mare in foal to a connie!!!

I agree natives do have a more extravegant movement just like the M&M's with the welsh. I think they should split it.
Also did you notice someone where spurs!! its never been allowed before in the smalls class and she was placed.
Did you have yours entered yesterday? What did you think of the results.

Spurs are allowedf for over 18s under CHAPS rules I also thought the trads were hard done by; not just because I was on one!

I was surprised at the coloured ridden Chamionships result - as in my opinion animals that went the best did not come out on top, though admittedly I did not see all the classes - though I expect Champinships to be judges separately. However judges have advantage of close up view of limbs etc which spectator doesn't and they may have preferences for a particular animal too.
As regards splitting classes it is the large hairy/cob class (or small too) I would like to see split as the hogged cobs can often proliferate and I think it can be quite challenging to differentiate between these two opposing types. I feel, the combined class is in danger of having the hogged cobs dominate (after all they are easier to present for shows and can go into pure cob classes too where a hairy has no other options, so not surprising people veer that way) to the detriment of keeping the traditional (and large native/vanner) types that are the root of coloured classes. I know there aren't always as many in them - certainly as regards large hairies but if split I think might actually get more as people would prefer to take on their peers.

Agree, Smallbutmighty, the coloured ridden championship didn't go the way I expected either. Merrigan looked stunning and went beautifully, but at the end of the day it goes down to the judges individual preference – I'm not a cob fan, and personally I think So Smart is rather fat, but like all Robert's horses it goes so well and it gave the judge a very good ride in its class, which I suspect helps. The non native pony winner just does not do it for me and I thought it was hot and fussy in the championship. Merrigan should have been reserve, imo Do think the judging was pretty fair, however, for the classes. NNH class marks did reflect the ride given and conformation judge was consistent too. Which makes a change in CHAPS classes

How would I get to see the coloured marks do you know? Would be interested. Would Royal Show have them or just CHAPS (I can prob get them from show but maybe not from CHAPS as not member?)
I quite like So Smart though not as much as a lot of judges seem to, and I didn't think it gave it's best account of itself in Champ in any pace. I would have had Merrigan I think to be Champ though it too did not go as well as it can - but still went well enough. Didn't see small NNP - did the winner go a lot better in class (I hope so!) as I've never seen it in flesh before. All personal opinion of course, and only from ringside.
