We went to the Derbyshire Festival today at Somerford, what a fantastic show, very well run, and good, strong classes.
After watching many, many welsh c's and d's, it was very saddening to see the winner of the d's (who also won the c's) being shouted at, from the side of the ring, whislt on her lap of honour "Well done, well deserved and not at all fixed!" whilst giving a very loud slow hand clap. What bad, bad manners! There was also a girl on one of the ponies in the class, with this person, ranting about it being fixed.
I personally don't know well enough who's who, or who knows who etc, etc, but what a sad way to conduct yourself, they should be ashamed!

Disgraceful. If you have a problem with the result, you put your money down and make it official. Otherwise, if you haven't got the courage of your convictions, keep it buttoned.

Well not one person put money down to object at this show so it was obviously just sour grapes. Fabulous show, lots of quality entries and great bit of hard work by the organisers, stewards and helpers to make the show a success. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Manners maketh the man.

I guess if the same pony won both the C and D class that would be a fix but I presume that you mean the same rider on different ponies.
As they say the only person happy with the result is normally the winner of the class sarcastic comments don't change the results or endear yourself to the judges so why bother.

I was at the ringside and also heard this, as did many others as it was shouted that loud! I also thought it was disgraceful, the poor girl who won had her moment spoiled and looked quite upset, she asked me if i heard what that person said and i said yes and just to ignore it, i didn't know her but her D was lovely and it later took the hoys m and m championship!
Well done to her!

I agree, her sec D was fabulous and well done to her, we heard loads of grumbles when we were looking at our scores from the sec b class and they were still ranting in there now i come to think about it, but didnt hear it by the ring!!

Yes, I also made the point of congratulating her and her beautiful pony, what a shame people think it's acceptable to behave this way. She did say she was going to complain though....

good god, why do people bother showing when they have this kind of attitude!!!
I hope those standing near this person gave them a really hard time, what an awful shame for the girl, however lovely that they won the M&M champs, hope that put a sock in the mouth of their ringside 'fan', people like that should be named and shamed and banned from show grounds!

exactly its really terrible behaviour, showing is a competition and if people can't cope with competition then they shouldn't be there. How horrible that someone would do that to you on your lap of honour! Especially as many of these 'fixed class' rumours come from the grapevine and are made up or twisted. What a shame! And congrats to the class winners X

how disgusting to acutally voice their opinions in this way - if they had a genuine qualm then they should have put they money where there mouth is! On the other hand i witnessed a disgusting lack of manners from a young lady yesterday who not being happy being placed 6th pointedly refused to take her rosette from the judge and when he managed to get her to take it she stormed out of the ring (disrupting the merry go round lap of honour of the others), threw her rosette at the steward, swore vengence and called the judge all sorts of rude names and quoted " but mum i always win that class!" Little madam would have had her bottom smacked and banned from showing in future if she had been mine!

Sadly there seems to be an element in our sport these days who are convinced everything is a "fix" unless they win of course. The two judges for this class are both well respected and in my opinion above reproach, but obviosly they have both "been got at " to listen to some people. Oh please, get a life it's a sport, a hobby, a pastime not life and death !!

Thats terrible i would be ashamed if my daughter behaved like that . I wish parents would teach their kids good sportmanship ive been to 2 different local shows recently that are lets face it meant to be fun . The amount of kids who get really annoyed because they dont win , i heard one girl say to her friend when the judge walked past i hate her she"s mean she put us last and its not just the kids the parents get the hump when they dont win as well . I always say to my daughter dont expect to win today then if she does its a bonus if not she still enjoys herself .

That is discusting behaviour especially when there are people out there who be delighted to be placed 6th or even those who be overjoyed to even have the chance to compete - people are so ungrateful and spoilt and really don't appreciate what they have. Even if you don't win you probably still have a lovely pony or horse that some pony mad kids who do not have parents who can afford to have ponies would love to ride or own. I remember when I was kid my parents were always telling me how lucky I was to even have a pony when there are children in this world who do not even have enought to eat - let alone a pony that would win a competition. how disgusting to acutally voice their opinions in this way - if they had a genuine qualm then they should have put they money where there mouth is! On the other hand i witnessed a disgusting lack of manners from a young lady yesterday who not being happy being placed 6th pointedly refused to take her rosette from the judge and when he managed to get her to take it she stormed out of the ring (disrupting the merry go round lap of honour of the others), threw her rosette at the steward, swore vengence and called the judge all sorts of rude names and quoted " but mum i always win that class!" My children and I have always followed the mantra "be a happy winner, but also a gracious loser" and always congratulate the winner of the class. We have all been unhappy with a judges opinion, but when you complete that entry form you are willingly submitting your horse to those judges scrutiny and opinion! It is best to smile, and move on!
Those classes were huge and anyone placed did well. Fortunately they did have a lovely big ring.
The show was lovely and thanks to those who take on the enormous amount of work in organising, setting up and clearing away. The workers ring was fabulous.... though the days were long for all involved!! Anyone who jumped a clear, in any of the worker classes over the two days were in an elite band and did well!

My children and I have always followed the mantra "be a happy winner, but also a gracious loser" and always congratulate the winner of the class. On a similar vein, I was always taught "before you can be a good winner, you need to be a good loser". I too always say well done to the winner - even when they haven't deserved it.....let's face it, we've probably all been there at some point or another and wondered why.....or at least I know I have! [That's not to say I am saying either of these 2 ponies did or did not deserve their wins - just making a general comment]

I suppose we have all witnessed occasions when we did not agree with the judges decision. If it's really blatant, you need to put your money down, no other way to get anything done. But for goodness sake, keep it in, get back to your lorry, get in, close the door, and THEN rant!

Has anyone witnessed an objection upheld in the Showing World? Do judges actually get demoted from panels?
Just wondered if there was much point in coughing up hard earned money to lodge an objection when the cards are firmly stacked against you when you are only challenging someone else's opinion.

I bit my tongue in one class on sunday not at this show, but then went and won 2 other classes all judges will have different decisions at the end of the day, if the ringside judges think they can do better go get on the panel

i had started a thread along similar lines to this as i didnt realise there was running....
I was in a ridden HOYS B class yesterday and I thought what a great line up the top 6 were especially the winner, what a fab pony!
Walking back to the car i heard 2 different people moaning about the results saying comments like "oh what a load of crap" and "hmmm all producers - how typical"
personally i think every pony in the top 6 yesterday were beautiful and i dont know how people can moan when producers are winning after all, its their job and they ride the best ponies! I dont even know if all 6 were producers, and if they were, so what!?
if people are such bad losers maybe they shouldnt be showing at this level where the competition is tough, it really annoyes me!!

Yes, the section B winner was beautiful, we had spotted him earlier in the day and commented then. It's all so objective though, everyone will have a different opinion which they're entitled to, but to be so blatantly rude and agressive to someone else is disgusting! You can please some of the people some of the time and all that........

I didn't think it actually cost money to put in a complaint/objection about judging. I thought you just needed to write a letter to the relevant show/society within 14 days and if more than 2 letters were received then the complaint would be taken seriously and looked into.

Happened to me too I was walking back to the lorry after being delighted to come third in a class only to overhear the bottom placed person saying well it s alright if you are a very fat highland or a scraggy newforest for that useless ^^^ judge. My very beautiful young Connemara was the scraggy newforest referred to in that comment
