General prices were £20 for Foals colts and fillys, some mare in foal with foal at foot £80. A few foals went for a lot more arounf £300 / £350 mark, a lovely Sec D Mare fab breeding £280. Really low prices, in general.
I came away with a couple of bargins, which will make cracking little ponies for the future.
Didnt see many sec B, there were just shed loads of A foals, and D foals. A few older on.
There was astriking Pally Sec B colt there must of been 2/3yrs, lovely ridden type, didnt she what it went for though as the weather was disgusting, its rain hard all day on sunday.

I doubt it. To be honest, I hope it stops as many being bred, cos the Mirco shipping and Registering is more expensive it may deter studs breeding as many, so they dont lose moeny at these sales on the ponies they breed.
I will probably be shot for saying this, but I think there should be some sort of cap on the amount each stud can breed per year, if you get me.

It is a shame that we have an overproduction problem. Alot of people our breeding from ponies that should not be bred from. We are in danger of losing type in our native breeds. Should studs and hill farmers just decide to breed from the best and only the best??? In welsh mountain ponies we are seeing too many dippy backs and the section B's have alot of stick insects!!!! They need bone as well as quality. I would say the Rhydspence ponies have that so I hope they sold well at Hay??? This is the type of breeding we need!

Well I had a lovely weekend and was very pleased with what I brought home - sadly they didn't command the prices they deserved but they'll have a lovely home here and will be well looked after.

I cant believe there were so many foals sold for a tenner. I had a quick look through the results, one stud sold 5 foals 3 colts + 2 fillies for a total of £55 for the 5. Why do people keep breeding them. I also read on another forum that one man bought 94 ponies and didnt pay more than 30 quid for any of them. fairly obvious where they were going. Again why o why are they being bred if no-one wants them, someone said to me 'ah you have to keep these old bloodlines going' - how are these'old bloodlines' being kept going going when the foals just go for slaughter. Oh it makes me so mad, I know lots of us say this every year but why does it continue . Aaaaaaargh - rant over

Oh it makes me so mad, I know lots of us say this every year but why does it continue . Aaaaaaargh - rant over There was one particular bidder buying alot of the foals that when for £30 / £20 but he also bought a few mares for a couple of hundred pound. I managed to purchase one from him that he had bought in the ring. I dont think he bought as many as 94 personally, there was also another person buying an awful lot. If anyone goes to Holmfirth Sale you will see alot there as he told me that were "some" were destine for and the others "well i cant type it how he put it to me" but your right, slaughter as Brightwells asked if they need any extra papers work for export!!! he also said to me "I will buy as many as I can" Its a god dam shame - it shouldnt be allowed to happen, why breed for breeding sake. All these studs should be VERY ASHAMED of themseleves for being responable for the death and slaughter of approx 90 Foals in over two days. If you imagine how many are bought between the sales ie Farye Oaks, Hay on Wye and Brecon there would be MASSIVE about, why do it its disgusting. If you had 90 from each thats 270 unwanted foals just bred to die. Wrong if you ask me. I feel strongly about all this and i have had trouble sleeping at night think ing that poss all the other foals that he bought have had only upto 6 mnths of life.

I can only agree with you all, i don't go to sales for this very reason..it's heartbreaking!! There should definatley be some sort of levy that puts a stop to this over- breeding, it is unfair and cruel, and many of the true welsh bloodlines are being lost. I really hope if any good is to come out of these awful and heartbreaking sights it will be that less ponies are bred and the ones that are will have quality breeding and have a purpose in life.

well i for one have stopped breeding for this very reason..i didnt breed a lot but i wanted them to have good homes for life not to be killed by the age of 1 yrs old....something should be done..
