I seem to recall that Zoe Arrowsmith (Warleigh Stud) was putting together many, many photographs of the late great show ponies. I haven't crossed paths with her for sometime but if anybody does, she would be worth asking for some more photos.
I liked the photos that the NPS printed for the centenary year. Perhaps they could be asked to put up a display of photos at the Summer Champs and people could bring along photos that they have to share with the rest of us.

Mr RPJ Thank you for the picture of Dubonnet - made me quite emotional seeing this today. I have just arrived back from visiting my mum, and have come away with consecutive BSPS year books 1976 -2004 !!!! (We had a yearbook for every year we were members). So this afternoon, I am packing the kids and OH off to the inlaws and I am sitting down with my mother's day chocolate and looking through 28 years worth of lovely photos.
Message for Janeh - I have come across a picture of Piran Larkspur in the 1976 book. I will try to get to grips with the scanner this week and post the picture. I recall Smalland Otto being in one of the early books, so I will look for this also x

Thanks silverstars...I have found the 1976 one with Larkspur in, but all my other books were lent and never returned. I expect the BSPS have all the old Pony World magazines. I still have Otto's flat show saddle hanging up in the feedroom. We had a Gibson saddle made to measure later with deep seat and knee rolls. It was the same make saddle that Davina had made for Holly.

No! What is it? Did you not get a communtication from Tom last year? Mrs Joan L-S, prompted, if I understand it correctly, by the late Elspeth Ferguson (Rosevean). asked Tom to put together a 'portfolio (my words) of post-war British Riding Ponies........

It would be great if some other people added some pictures to this thread!! Think the idea of having a picture gallery on one of these websites would be really good!!

I had forgotten that photo of Larkspur......produced by Mrs Jane Hoskin, ridden by Caroline Toms. I have some much better ones of Otto, but no scanner. Larkspur was reserve champion to Holly at the NPS champs show. She went on to breed champion HOYS ponies Piran Sweet Honesty and P Rosemary. Her mother Thistledown had won HOYS.

We also had one of Larkspurs babies, Piran Sweet Charity. I haven't been able to find any of Otto in the year books. He was definitley in some publication. It must been in the Pony World magazine. (We have all of them somewhere?!!) But best of all I remember him at the shows.

I love the picture of Holly. No bling, no glitter, no make up, no hair ribbons . A proper length jacket and a jockey that is happy to be on her pony...... and what a pony!!!

Its a gorgeous pic isn't it. Anyone know who the two ponies in the background were? I did know but can't for the life of me remember now. Is the chestnut Ocean So Fair? I know she won in 1979 but can't recall if she won the 12.2's the year before too. Oakley Spring Lark rings a bell too. Speaking of results it would be nice to have results for the pony classes of old for the RI, BSPS Ch and HOYS too to look back on. Showing World I'm sure did have HOYS winners going back to the 60's/late 60's but doesn't go anywhere near as far back as that now which is a shame.

Fantastic and interesting thread - thanks to all the contributors plus RPJ for starting it off. Like others, when and why did the fashion for over weight ponies start? All of these look fantastic, well covered and healthy. No chin straps!! Those were the days!

1976---7 I think. Come on lets see some more from the 70's. I loved Oakley Bubbling Simone, Lechlade Violet, Sarnau Venus, Cusop Heiress and lots of lovely Cusop ponies, Arden V o V of Creden and other super Gilbert Scott ponies.
