And this is the WPCS's mission, taken from their info page on FB: To encourage the breeding and improvement of horses and ponies and, more especially, the Welsh breeds. To advance public education, connected with the use and management of same. To provide or assist in the provision of recreational facilities and uses of Welsh Ponies and Cobs. To prevent cruelty to horses and ponies. In which case, in the light of that picture and in that instance, I suggest they are failing miserably.

I think the quickest way to stop the sale of these ponys at Brightwells is trading standards and the Sale of Goods Act. Any one who bought a pony should be supported in making a claim and probabely most of these ponies may have health problems. Basically Brightwells which has spent years try to establish a reputation for selling qualilty animals in one week as reduced its reputation to one simular to a back street dodgy car dealer. I feel truly sorry for this mares breeder, we all hope when we sell our youngsters that they go on to bigger better things and have a long and happy life and when she was sold this would have been their worst nightmare.

Can I stress that this is not another 'plight of unwanted neglected ponies in sales' issue but is in fact about one very cruel individual who should be shut down by the RSPCA who has made a living out of bringing ponies in this condition to the premier sales to attract sympathy buyers. Lets remember his ponies were selling for more money than ponies presented for sale in a good condition. The stud owner and no one else, is responsible for the condition of his animals, this has been going on for many years now. I think the issue is with the RSPCA and other welfare bodies in not investigating or procecuting this man or removing animals from his ownership. The WPCS have no statutory power in a welfare capacity or Brightwells but I do think it is time Brightwells distanced themselves from him and publicly refuse to sell on behlf of him in future. They will gain many more happy customers if they do! The WPCS would only be able to take action against his membership if he is prosecuted.

Can I just make something ABUNDANTLY CLEAR- this man DOESN`T CARE about his ponies, or those of others who have entrusted them to him, he DOESN`T CARE what people think of him as every time he enters ponies for sales there is this same uproar and debate and if he isn`t able to enter them in sales it won`t stop him carrying on his cruel practices, he will continue to breed and abuse and will rely on those misguided individuals who will travel to and buy from his stud purely for the bloodlines- when in reality, with approximately 80% plus white grey mares and unhandled foals, he hasn`t got a d**ned clue which foal belongs to which mare and the buyer more than likely won`t be buying the blooodlines they think they are ! The only thing that will stop this pig of a man (actually that`s an insult to pigs!) from continuing with his abuse is to have his ponies taken from him by the authorities and be banned by the WPCS ad Welfare associations from ever owning ponies again! I am now going to get out the photo`s of my beloved Supe`s after he came back from CRICCIETH THIRTEEN YEARS AGO....they are locked away as they are not something I like to look at, but then if someone would be kind enough to post them for me, I will show you all what he`s been up to for at least THIRTEEN YEARS!

I wasn't at the sales (thankfully!) but my friend and her mum went and I had a phonecall from my friend who was in tears at the state of the Cricceith ponies. We discussed 'rescueing' some as we have spare stables but my friend's mum didn't think they would even make the long journey back. And as cruel as it sounds, it would make up room for more ponies and putting money in someone's pocket, who is not in it for the love and welfare of horses.
We would love more ponies ourselves, but I have to use head over heart...Gwyn has everything he needs and more, but if I take on another one, I would have to split it all and giving them just the basics is fine, but I rather have 1 and give him all he needs and more then have 2 and give them the minumum.
It's a disgrace and it's human kind and greed that create these situations and it is only the caring humans under us that can raise our voices, as sadly these poor ponies can't. We need to speak up on their behalf, we owe them that much.
Not sure if it would help/encourage people to have a list of email addresses, snail mail addresses etc put together and a proforma letter to complain about the state of some of these horses that were put up for sale?

I have just spent my lunch hour emailing every so called equine welfare orginisation in the country, WPCS, all the daily national newspapers, some welsh papers local to this so called breeder, the BBC, Sky news, ITV and some welsh ones.... I have even emailed Mr Cameron!!!
What I find appaling is that in the not to distant past a certain Mr Jamie Gray was prosecuted for cruelty, and some of his animals looked in better nick than this poor mare!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is a shame...........I heard that he had previously been advised by the RSPCA to reduce his stock hence the last sale with them in, but he then turned his stallion back out. Maybe they will be prosecuted this time....
On a happier note anyone get any good pics etc.......of animals they liked

I dread to think how little these ponies have eaten over the winter, my A's are on a strict diet and are still fat, their food and care i.e teeth, worming must be non existent to be in the condition they are in. However I must say the two stallions in the pens were in good condition.

Today I telephoned the RSPCA, WHW, WPCS, Powys trading standards and WAG(Welsh Assembly). The first 4 simply told me "WE ARE AWARE" and wouldn't discuss it further. WAG didn't have a clue who I should talk to and passed me from pillar to post, worked out who I should talk to and I was asked to ring again on Wednesday.
I have written an account of what I saw there as I wrote next to every ponies name how they looked and I have posted that today to 16 different places e.g welfare, magazines and newspapers.
i am also a facebook friend of a well known Welsh reporter for ITV Wales and have sent him the facebook link
Keep shouting everyone and if necessary we can arrange a mass demonstration, with banners - perhaps at the Royal Welsh show as many people will be there and the WPCS really don't seem to care.

It makes you wonder if this pony was sold in the main part of the sale instead of a consignment of a group of ponies tagged onto the end of the the sale, would the same vet and Brightwells still of said she was fit to sell. (I don't think so ) It was bad enough that this poor mare was in such a bad state, but from what I have been told all the ponies were in much the same state, I think that not only should this sorry excuse for a man be marched into a court room, Brightwells and the WPCS should be standing in the dock along side him for allowing this to still be going on.
