It's all very familiar to me.......
REMEMBER WHEN: All the girls had ugly gym slips
It took five minutes for the TV to warm up
Nearly everyone's Mum was home when the kids got home from school
Nobody owned a purebred dog
You'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny
Your Mother wore nylons that came in two pieces
All male teachers wore ties and female teachers had their hair done every day and wore high heels
You got your windscreen cleaned, oil checked and petrol served, without asking, all for free, every time..
It was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents
They threatened to keep children back a year if they failed the school year. . .. And they did!
When a Ford Zephyr was everyone's dream car... And people went steady
No one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked
Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles?
Playing cricket with no adults to help the children with the rules of the game
Bottles came from the corner shop without safety caps and hermetic seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger
And with all our progress, don't you wish, just once, you could slip back in time and savour the slower pace, and share it with the children of today?
When being sent to the headmasters office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited you at home
Basically we were in fear for our lives, but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! But we survived because their love was greater than the threat. As well as summers filled with bike rides, cricket, Hula Hoops, skating and visits to the pool, eating lemonade powder or liquorice sticks. Didn't that feel good, just to go back and say, 'Yes, I remember that'?
I am sharing this with you today because it ended with a Double Dare to pass it on. To remember what a Double Dare is, read on, and remember that the perfect age is somewhere between old enough to know better and too young to care.
Send this on to someone who can still remember the Lone Ranger and Sgt Bilko
How Many Of These Do You Remember? Coca Cola in bottles.
Blackjacks and bubble gums.
Home milk delivery in glass bottles with tinfoil tops
Hi-Fi's & 45 RPM records.
78 RPM records!
Adding Machines.
Scalextric.
Do You Remember a Time When.. Decisions were made by going 'Eeny-meeny-miney-moe'? 'Race issue' meant arguing about who ran the fastest? Catching tadpoles could happily occupy an entire day?
It wasn't odd to have two or three 'Best Friends'?
The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was 'chickenpox'?
Having a Weapon in School meant being caught with a slingshot ?
War was a card game?
Playing cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle?
Taking drugs meant orange - flavoured chewable aspirin?
Water balloons were the ultimate weapon?
If you can remember most or all of these, Then You Have Lived!!!!!!!
Pass this on to anyone who may need a break from their 'Grown-Up' Life.
Double Dare You!

Yessss I remember it all, but I also remember knitted swimsuits that dangled below your knees when you staggered out of the water, freezing bedrooms, outside toilets, chilblains from walking miles every day with a sack on my back to feed my pony, crying because she was ill and we could not afford the vet.
Also 53 in our class at school, I just could not wait to leave and still hate crowds. I had a pony for years before I had a saddle or a hat and remember how proud I was when my brother bought me a noseband, never had one before and it was a totally different colour to the rest of the bridle. I brushed her with a scrubbing brush and cleaned the brush by scraping in on the pebble dashed wall of the house.

I remember all of this, and the added ones that have been posted, and I feel sorry for the children of today who will never experience these things. They really were what made us who we are. Can you imagine having to walk to your friends house and actaully knock on the door to see if they wanted to play out, now its just done by text.

I was way more scared of my mum, dad & defo my gran.. If I got into trouble at school and got a letter home I'd get leathered !! Yes smacked, grounded & no spends.. You know what I never did it again..
Sadly my children don't understand how lucky they are.. Teachers don't even shout at them .. What is the world coming too
Fond memories of sherbet dib dabs, slush puppie, popping candy, fruit salads.. Oh I was so happy then..
Ahhh takes me back....

Walking 1/1/2 miles each way to school every day whatever the weather, making slides in the playground when it snowed- no such thing as teachers worrying they may be sued if we fell and hurt ourselves. Yes- galloping a racehorse in a scarf. Hacking miles to a Meet, hunting , then hacking home- any traffic always had the time and manners to slow down for you. The day I bought a Honda 50 and didn't have to cycle to look after my horse- freedom!! I'm sure we were tougher and healthier with the outdoor activities and exercise but do like the fact that I can check my horses from the centrally heated warmth of my bedroom window at intervals whilst they are out during the day.

I think it will always be a permanent feature at our house. The toilet indoors is to flipping far away from the cloak room! The pony and sack carrying also still applies! I remember a lot of these even though I'm heading towards the big 30! I remember when we used to leave the house unlocked to go out, used to offer cyclists who stopped outside in our mill stone for a rest a drink and a sandwich I think we would get some funny looks if we offered that now. People and times have changed and not for the better really.
