After 12 months of careful thought we have decided we would like to have a puppy, and have all just about agreed on a whippet.
We would be able to offer a loving family home, about an acre of enclosed garden, 30 acres of field at the bottom of the garden to walk/run/play on at least twice a day on the school run and 15 acres of pony land. I have 1 daughter who is 7 so a puppy from a family of children would be preferred, though my daughter is very gentle.
We are looking to bring our puppy home around the middle of December, as I have 2 weeks off work to settle the puppy in. The puppy, although a christmas present is a well thought out puppy, not a spur of the moment decision. However, should the perfect puppy present herself sooner I would consider having her sooner.
We would like either a blue or fawn bit*h, KC reg'd and have a sensible budget.
I would also consider an itallian greyhound, but don't want a whippet x/lurcher puppy. Just a whippet!
So if you have a bit*h that is due to pup soon, or even a litter at the moment, please let me know. I am based in south yorks, Sheffield, but can travel a reasonable distance to collect.

If you go on K9 community forum, this is a whippet/greyhound/italian greyhound based forum, am on there under the name Towy, there are some good breeders who go on there. Cant beat a whippet as a pet.

Prepare to loose your bed!!! They are the best, loving, clean, fun but not exhaustive, agile, elegant but the worst thieves and the biggest duvet stealers (although shed no hair practically) and the best behave except for this. Very excited for you and you deserve one x

Thanks guys.
Am ridiculously excited LOL. We had greyhounds when I was a kid and have always loved the type, and up until about 8 years ago I had a dog my whole life. Work and family got in the way though, but now I work 4 hours a day, whilst my little girl is at school so think 4 hours a day is OK to leave a dog home alone.
If not, I have already told my boss she will be coming to work with me LOL.
OH already declared no dogs upstairs, in beds or on furniture. Shes to have her own bed and thats that.
Little girl already made a space in her room for her puppys bed.
OH as sof as a brush though and will be the one getting shouted at for letting puppy into bed. Did I mention we already have a name? Not that we are planning ahead or anything PMSL.

If you've decided on a whippet don't make the mistake of thinking that Italian Greyhounds are the same in a smaller jacket. They are very different and far more demanding especially to housetrain. We have both and the whippets are far easier in every way. Wouldn't be without our IG but wouldn't have another.

Thanks for that Suelin, have done a bit more research and had decided on a whippet, but what I wanted was proving more difficult to find than I thought.
BUT I think I have found her. Shes 5 months old, nearly 6 I think, and we hopefully collect her on Sunday. Shes not beige or blue though LOL, a lovely red/brindle instead. Will ad pics hopefully soon.
Very, very excited and we have been counting down the sleeps LOL.

Yay- excited for you...is she a small one or tall one? If she ever needs a handsome blue brindle boyfriend you know where I am! x

Hi M & H, I think she is a tall one, if you mean whippets are tall and IGs are small LOL.
She's from the Barnesmore stud in N ireland, and looking at her pedigree, quite well bred I think, from the very limited info I have on whippets. Shes got UK, Irish, and international champions on both sides anyway.
Shes beautiful and I can not wait to go get her LOL. Am more excited about this pup than I am about buying new ponies and thought that was the most exciting shopping you could do!

Awww they look gorgeous! I am loving the red brindles. I like the bigger ones but then I am biased. Prepare to be mobbed when you take her out- mine gets treated like a celebrity, had people at one show taking photos to send back to husband to see if they "suited" a whippet.
I think it is a bit more exciting than horse shopping, I am looking for one for my best friend at the moment and spend much more time on that than "horses for sale". As one of the whippet sites says; "Welcome to the world of Whippet Slaves" x

She'll thinks shes a celebrity when she sees the lead my little girl bought for her last night. Its baby pink. With diamontes. All over LOL. OH not amused. He did say that if we had a dog it would be up to me and little girl to walk it. Now he has said I have to buy another lead that is more him (hes a 6ft builder, all muck and muscle so I can see his point ) so he can walk her without people laughing at him. What he doesn't know is that I have been given the name of a site that sells sparkly whippet collars as well. The chappie that I am getting this little girl from has just had a litter of puppies I think? What are you looking for? I'll obviously have to nosey around all of them whilst we are there so will ask him if he has anything suitable?

Send me the name of the whippet sparkly collar immediately!!! (Pip has been known on occasion to wear my baby pink pineapple dance hoodie) my mate's husband refuses to walk him in anything other than his old dog's lead for similar reasons.
They would be looking for a girl, not bothered about KC reg. Would prefer blue/blue brindle but most important is temp- good for young children but playful.
I am after a smoking jacket for my boy, he has a newmarket fleeace and a Newzealand already. To think I never understood those people who gushed over doggie accessories...
