I could really do with a little bit of help and remembered this forum and have finally found it again via good old yahoo. I was off to dressage tomorrow but my novice class time is way to late so i have withdrawn and decided to go to Great Charts showing show at Bluebarn tomorrow. I have done a little bit of local level showing ( im not aiming high ) and im getting mixed opinions from judges at local level as to "what" my mare is. I have won riding club horse, show hunter but im thinking she is more of a riding horse? She is a 7 year old 16.2 warmblood ( out of showjumping lines ) but does a bit of everything. Here are a few pics of the said monkey and a video so you can see her way of going. The video is a bit old but gives you an idea. www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4AnIUDAy6MNow for my other bit... Im thinking of doing the unaff classes in the afternoon as the ones in the morning at ponies uk qualifiers and im no where near that standard and dont want to look like a plonker making a bit fat fool of myself. Im thinking class 52 and poss 56 as im not sure she is heavy enough to be a l/w hunter. These are the unaff classes copies from the schudule 1pm LUNCH BREAK until 2pm JUDGES MRS K WILSON/MS KATE IGGULDEN THESE CLASSES WILL BE SPLIT OR ALGMATED ACCORDING TO ENTRIES – ALSO EQUIFEST QUALIFIERS EXCEPT CLASS 53 CLASS 52 OPEN RIDDEN HORSE/HACKS CLASS 53 OPEN FORIGEN BREEDS INCUDING ARABS CLASS 54 OPEN RIDDEN HUNTER LARGE AND SAMALL CLASS 55 OPEN RIDDEN COBS INCLUDING MAXI CLASS 56 OPEN RIDDEN Id rather go in my snaffle as shes nice and light in this, she has been out showing in a pelham and 2 reins but she pulls into it with her velvet browband but should i really just go in the pelham or will a snaffle be acceptable? Any help would be greatefully received as i dont want to get it all wrong

Looks lovely by the way my opinion would be more lightweight hunter (small hunter?) sorry not into the hunter types, but I would guess more hunter, may be wrong. But good luck anyway, and you certainly will not look out of place

Ridden Hunter/LW Hunter. So you can just wear your tweed, & you'll be fine in a snaffle, in that's what she goes better in. Good luck!

I think shes beautiful, lovely movement too.
She looks brilliant plaited up and though I do think for her classes she will be better in a pelham, if she doesnt like it then you will be fine in a snaffle.
Do they not have a show hunter class? My opinion is that shes a bit chunky for the ridden/hack class and a bit too "pretty" for the hunters. An inbetween would be perfect for her but out of the Two go for the Open Hunter.
Also I think giving her tail a good trim would smarten her up even more though Im not sure if thats frowned upon in dressage?
Good luck and have fun whichever class(es) you enter.

100% large riding horse.. she is not a hack.. I think they are 15.3 and under... and she is not fine enough.. but what a lovely riding horse.. I dont think she is big enough boned and substantial enough for a hunter...

I think RH , so do the riding horse/hack class and also do the open showing... In the hack/rh class wear your tweed jacket with a coloured browband, but in the open showing wear coloured browband and navy jacket - most of all - Have fun and Enjoy xxxx

This is a large riding horse hun... She throws some moves! I agree with the tail comment and that wont be frowned upon in dressage. So you need to invest in a Blue hat and jacket and fancy brow band. Wont do her any harm showing as a hunter though for now as its all millage. I like her. :-)

Thanks for your feedback everyone.
Her tail was recently cut a good 4 inchs to just below her hocks and she already has a lovely burgundy brow band. I dont own a navy jacket at the moment so i would have to wear my tweed.
She is a real sweetie but eeeek this is her first showing having come of regumate so fingers crossed she isnt a hormal mess.
I shall be on the lookaout for a navy jacket at your horse live.... opsy more pennies spent.
So you think class 52 which is ridden horse / hack and then class 56 open ridden?
Reguarding tack she is still unsettled in the pelham so i think i need to try a proper double at some point so i can ride of the actual snaffle bit. Would i be better going in a snaffle tomorrow and have her going better or should i just stick with the pelham for now becuas eit is correct?

I personally would go in the snaffle and change bits when she is going happily in either a pelham or double xx

Completely useless to offer an opinion I'm afraid!!! But we'll be there so we'll look out for you. (Actually I shouldn't tempt fate, every time I say that something goes pear shaped but fingers crossed!)
Good luck and enjoy, they're a friendly bunch.

I'd say she's a large Riding Horse, and your tweed is acceptable dress for that. I'd do that, foreign breeds & Open ridden.
Good luck - nice horse!!

Haven't quite got round to reading the schedule yet tbh but think we're middling part of the day, but we have a little 12.2 bay Sect B daughter with impossibly long legs and blonde hair, short fat harassed looking mother!

I promise to post pictures and do a little report later this evening. Im not sure we will do very well esp with these classes being quailfiers for things but its nice to mix things up a bit.
It looks really cold outside so im hoping it warms up as she could really do with a proper bath if not i will have to settle for a mane, tail and sock wash.

Good luc and don't worry about it, it's all aexpaerience and you never know you might do better than you think. Be confident in yourself and aslong as she behaves and you do your best don't worry as it depends on the judge on the day, you will be fine and do well I am sure though!!!
Let us know how you get on and enjoy it :-) Oh and I'm for the lArge riding horse to :-) xx

hope your day went well, for the future you could look into using a jointed rugby pelham, it will give you the lokk of the double with out a mouth full of metal ,and with practice you can just use the top rein , with basically a snaffle in her mouth get some advice though from someone experienced who knows your mare and see if they think she would be happy in it, it worked really well on my mare and was a good pre double bridle bit .good luck sx

Well hopefully she'll come back on here and tell you herself but she had a great result today, and unless I'm very much mistaken she was riding around with a Champion rosette on at the end of the day!
Well done - you did really well and looked great, lovely to meet you and keep it up!

Hi there!
I had a good day in all. She was very well behaved in the warm up but i got my timings all wrong and was realy an hour early - opsy.
There were only 2 of us in riding horse and as soon as we went into the ring she lost the plot and got really tense leaping and fighting so we came 2nd in that class. Judge said she was very true to type of a riding horse and she was really hoping she would settle as she very much liked her.
I sneaked in the ring when it was empy to work her for 5 mins between classes and she settled down and went nicely. Then we did the open ridden and there were only 4 in that but we won that so i was very pleased.
Then as it was only a 30 min wait for the championship class, i just thought id stay and use it as schooling. I was pulled in as champions ( again not that many i think there were 7 in that but all were top 2 in their classes i guess ) so all in all a good day but she spent most of the day looking for jumps lol.
I have some pictures so i will post them when the OH bring his camera back in the next few days.
