will try and make it short , 4 yrs ago i rescued a 9mnth weanling , weve had a few ups and downs along the way , hes my ugly duckling , because he was the smallest bag of s--t id ever come across , but hes blossemed and is a stunning shp now , rising 5 yrs , done well in hand ,broken in , and turned away as no jockey , just as i thought id found the perfect little person ( hes 12.2hh) to have apop at showing him after rebacking , the poor little mite has gone and bust her leg ,( not horse related )and i feel desperately for her as she has at least 3-4 of her own to ride ,and show , ---but she was the only little person that ive come across that i had the confidence in to take this young lad on , whilst not really naughty he is quick, and clever , so now im back to the drawing board , apart from some in hand showing this season , what am i going to do with him , ----for his sake , it seems nobody wants a 12.2hh that isnt 100% ,inevery way , any ideas

No ideas, but I know exactly where you are coming from, I have two mares, a 133 and 138 sp's, one is a total pro but likes to be ridden correctly, and the other very green and lacking in confidence, cant find a soul that does'nt either ride on their hands or sit there like a lemon randomly kicking at their sides. I'm reduced to riding them myself, as well as my 15hh who I hoped to be able to donate 100% of my time to this year, doing inhand classes, and some dressage with them. Its terribly hard to find someone unless the pony is a push button who just needs a pilot as opposed to a rider.

oh armada , you think that you are doing right by them by taking them in , in a bad state and all i want is for him to go to a long term loan home and give a young person an absolutely wonderful time and learn as they go along , hes not got a bad bone in his body , but he is young and green , and needs a pony club / experienced home to have some fun with , but its like trying to get blood out of a stone , and i cant expect this young lass to even consider another pony as shes still in hospital , its my problem and i have to sort it , but how ?? he deserves more than just in hand showing !!!!!!!and at 5yrs he should be doing ,ie pony club , abit of hunting , show jumping , working hunters , dressage etc !!!!!!!! what ahead ache !!!

Have you advertised him for loan on the Pony Club Webiste? In my experience a lot of Pony Club parents are keen to loan smaller ponies as the children go up through the sizes. And often a good pony has a waiting list and never gets to open loan again. Just a thought Try and contact your local branches District Commisioner (Can be found on the branch webiste) they often know of any members looking for ponies. Quite a few stay in the family for all the children too, and then go on to another pony club home within the branch.

thanks ginageo and working cob , i have been on the wanted section regularly , but perhaps i ought to go to the local commisiner like you said , i just want a child who can ride not bob around like a spare part , and blame the pony if it doesnt all go 100% , dont get me wrong im not after a free schooling ticket , i will never sell this pony , and i cannot ride him as im too big , i just want him to go and have some fun in stead of being a field ornament , its such a waste , !!!!!!

Pony Club is def worth a try. I think these days children are so busy with after school activities, homework etc that they aren't as keen on finding ponies to ride, and the ones that do just don't do the range of riding activities we did as kids (hunting, hacking etc) so don't have the same riding skills

yes quite agree , the school of hard knocks doesnt seem to apply anymore , anyway will just have to keep trying for ponies sake !!!!!! I grew up on a dealing yard, and the other dealers my mum worked with often had ponies with us and my only after-school activity was getting on them and getting them ship-shape to sell on. You sat there and took your medicine and learned to ride an animal forward and work the problems through methodically and sensibly, bursting into tears and threatening to get off was not an option. Times change though, and seeing your mother disappearing off to catch the bugger that had just whizzed you off whilst you lay there bruised and senseless, and the last thing you hearing is the voice saying 'on, get back on now' are long gone I fear.

It's a pity my daughter has 4 quirky ones of her own to bring out of hibernation including a baby stallion, or she'd be hankering after riding all your above mentioned ponies ;-) I think she prefers riding other peoples than her own lol She also had a broken leg a few years ago, like op's young jockey, it was not horse related and it was in august in the middle of the show season! She healed really quickly and managed to compete in one of the big end of season championship shows we have round here at the beginning of October. Unless its a complicated fracture then all may not be lost, kids heal so much quicker than us oldies. Good luck with finding jockeys, its not easy finding someone for quirky ponies :-(

Know exactly what you mean we have a riding school here and recently we have had quite a few ponies for sale and I have been shocked at the people who have come too try them our kids from the riding school who have had less lessons/ experience did a better job than most of them which I have to say I had to praise our instructors. The sad thing is there are so much health and safety factors now adays and so many people out there willing to sue if their child gets hurt, where I learnt to ride there was the riding school and livery yard I started in the school was down there helping every weekend and all holidays and in return got the odd free lesson half the time it was on young ponies needing schooled on the back of a lesson it was great fun and I learnt so much. We are not allowed to give away free lessons as it is classed as higher or reward such a shame as must admit we have a great group of kids ATM who are all proving fab riders with care and sensitivity and they all manage to adapt to the pony they are riding

what gets me is that this little chap will only get to be a fab / safe /been there done that pony , with experience and that will only happen if someone is prepared to take him on , now im not asking for free schooling to then sell him from under them , this pony will NEVER be sold , and the loan will be as long as the family want , be it 6 months 6 yrs , 26 yrs , i just want HIM to be more than a field ornament , and he deserves it , but the jockeys just dont seem to be upto the job !!!!!!!!!
