Google Race Horse Death Watch and its a list of all racehorses killed whilst racing on UK race tracks since 2007.It's long. At Aintree 26 have died in the last 5 years!!!! Some are put down in the days after the race because they have been ruined. Despite what is said this race is as dangerous now as it ever was.

Haven't watched it for the last two years as it is always devastating when these tragic things happen and could be avoided by just letting the fences be lower and for these horses to be up to the race. Lowering the fences doesnt work, it makes the race faster, the horses less careful and thus more falls happen. The fences have been lowered in the last few years and yet we seem to be having more horse deaths. for those that say they would never put a horse in a life threatening situation? are you saying that you never ever breed from your mares? that you never go showjumping or hunting? that you never go XC? that you've never ridden on the roads? all of the above are lifethreatening things for horses! Should we ban eventing as well? lots of high profile horses have died doing that aswell!

The deaths of these too beautiful and amazing horses is desperately sad. Synchronised shouldn't have run after dumping AP before the race. What is so sad is that the horses didn't die from their original fall. Synchronised, got up, and galloped round to the 11th, which he jumped, instead of bypassing, landed awkwardly and broke a hind leg. According to Pete, fell at Beachers as we know, but as he had got back to his feet, apparently unharmed, he was they struck by another horse who was landing over the fence. Breaking his foreleg. Desperately sad.

Such a shame for those 2 horses to lose their lives. Synchronised was inspected by numerous vets and he didn't exactly gallop off after ditching McCoy he went for a leisurely canter. If his heart rate had been at all up above expected then he would not have been allowed to run. As it was he was declared fit and sound to run. His injury occured a few fences after parting company with McCoy in the race itself.
Pete was brought down at Becher's. He didn't fall himself which kind of makes it worse in a sense. The whole family are devestated. They were standing waiting for him to come cantering home to be collected but he never came. Then the trainer got a call to say that his shoulder was too badly broken and there was nothing that could be done to save him in reality. They never even got to say goodbye to him.
As with regards to safety meassures - I honestly think that making the jumps smaller will cause more injuries and deaths as the horses will lose respect for them and jump them faster and lower. The number of horses allowed to race should be lowered though. No more than 30 if not less. The fences have been made narrower to allow run outs at every fence thus there is not as much room to jump as there was before and could you imagine 40horses all clammering to get through a small gap around the side of the fence? More carnage! Lessen the number, not the height.
THe other 3 horses, Weird Al, Chicago Grey and Killyglen are all ok and in the long run will be absolutely fine.
R.I.P. Synchronised & Pete x
