 Just saw this shared on facebook. A 5 month old QH foal in NZ. The man, a so called trainer and barefoot farrier called Craig Doty, and the smug looking woman is Julie Brownlee. I literally do not know what to say, that poor little foals spirit has been completely broken, let alone whats happening to its bones. but i know one thing id definately drag her off its back and wipe that smile off her face! it scares me that people do this, undoubtedly in this country too! Argghhhh!! |

i dont think i can, i only saw it because someone shared it onto their facebook page, with obviously the same views of most sane people. Its been shared nearly 500 times so its getting about pretty quick...

Have emailed my thoughts. It's not like she is a twig is it? We need to get the full picture but I just can't see the point in a 5 month old foal reaching this stage. I see there is use of the word "imprinting" but really, what's the use?
In all of the cultures in all of the world who have domesticated horses for thousands of years I don't think any of them have advocated the need to have what looks like a 10-11stone woman sit on them in full (badly fitting ) saddle on a foal at age 5 months who is still feeding from it's mother. How did we get here?

on facebook, if you click on the photo, under options there is an option to report, which I have done, put it down to graphic violence!!!!!

I've emailed him now, as there was no message button when I went on his FB page, did notice the owner was on his friends list, but the girl sitting on the foal was'nt.
My understanding of imprinting a foal does'nt include use of tack or a rider, they get a hat on at a day or two old, and we do stuff with bags, and tin foil, piking feet up and rubbing them over as for grooming and placing a towel over to simulate a rug etc to de-sensitise them when young, but thats about it, why on earth would you want to tack up and hop on? Sheer madness, and his loading technique beggars belief! And he calls himself a 'specialist', in what exactly, not horsemanship surely?
