I looked into this when i first got my dobermann when feeding a raw meat diet when you think about it if the dogs were in the wild (which theyre not as theyve been domestically bred - theyre not wolves) they would eat the WHOLE carcass not just the "nice" bits ie meat fat brain guts and so on * sorry for being a bit gorey For this reason i decided to feed fresh raw tripe from my local pet shop not the mass produced frozen stuff thats filled full of water mixed with a little complete mix to provide vitamins and minerals that arent found in the tripe which are needed for a healthy dog
Hope this helps x

Mine have it occassionaly, was looking at a GSD site couple of weeks ago and they only feed raw and will only sell to someone going to feed it, mine live on pasties and pies mainly from the pie man, if you speak to your local hunt they may be able to provide you with flesh

My dogs metabolism is not set up for any type of cereal so he has raw mince and lots of veg. I buy the pre packed veg that is all clean and cut up ready and bung it in the micro wave. Makes me look very healthy at the supermarket checkout with my 10 plus bags of veg every few days lol!!!

Happy to help

I've always fed all mine raw tripe, chicken wings, raw lamb and chicken, bones. Prize choice is quite a good site to look on the provide alot so you can get some ideas and then your local butcher can probably supply you alot cheaper.

I feed my 5month GSD raw out of necessity, she is allergic to grain, and everything else you could mention on planet earth. She eats all kind of raw meats and organs, not tripe as I was told that dogs find it hard to digest and I already have this problem. she DOES NOT eat vegetables. We tried our other dog on bits of it, she was fed commercail feeds without issue for 9 years, now she wont eat anything else. I think the dog knows best, no bad breath, no gingevitis on the teeth, shiney coats, muscular, full of energy. I was sceptical but will continue to feed this way but would never push it on anyone.

I was always told not to feed chicken/poultry bones in case they split and cause damage during digestion, is this not the case? I have a husky who would probably do well on a raw/barf diet. Do you get tripe from the butchers?

Do you get tripe from the butchers? I was also told this and would never feed poultry bones to a dog of any size. There's plenty more that can be fed safely.

Poultry bones are fine as long as they are raw never feed cooked bones to any dog any kind of cooked bone can shatter and cause splinters. I was going to feed raw but couldnt find anywhere that would supply bones and raw dog meat apart from tripe and I hate the smell of it so she is on commercial balanced food now. She does have the odd chicken wing to clean her teeth and sort her anal glands though

Had German Sheps for 40 yrs, always fed raw meat, always healthy, and long living. (But that`s not just down to feed) Some of you may remember my Zak he won the veterans class at PUK 3 years in a row. (when they had a dog show) The last vets class he did at a dog show, he should have won first prize, but one of the Judges didn`t believe he was 18 years old, and wouldn`t award him.
He`s in heaven now, Oh I still miss my best buddy.

I ended up feeding raw because my dog was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma when she was 10 years old. The vet gave her 3 months to live. I didn't want to believe it so started researching and found a holistic vet, first thing he said was get her on raw food.. and Chinese herbs.. Well she lived for a year and 4 months. Soo I decided no more commercial food for my dogs. I have two now that have been on raw all their lives and they are doing great..

I have changed all mine into raw Natural Instincts as my old Cav had chronic heart failure and had lost a hue amount of weight .... Tried everything and raw was a last solution! Beat decision ever!!!! All 4 dogs are on it now and wow what a change. My old Cav is now looking like her old self. And everyone looks better then ever!!! Wouldn't go back.

I have 2 working labs who are fed purely on a raw diet, have always been fed like this from 10 weeks old they are now 6 and have never had any complications from it! Both look really well, I would rather feed them as they were meant to naturally.

started to feed my two Patterdales raw, but they eventually started to turn there noses up at it, and now feed commercial along with veg, odd chicken wings. I really hate feeding commercial and would like to find something they can eat??
