Just what I've been thinking?!! It's a fair trek for us too, we're so excited as it's our first time at the RI. This weather is incredibly depressing....

I was at derby meet few weeks ago and my stables were under water! The ring was bearable but the horse walk across the field was like a bog and very deep. Boxes were towed in and out! I will go whatever the weather, forecast is pretty much same as has been. Fingers crossed we will get some sun and drying weather.

The ground at hicstead is like clay...when it rains it is slippy and actually can be quite dangerous, and when it's dry, it's like jumping on concrete. I've been fortunate enough to only jump there when it hasn't rained, but I have been to watch when it has chucked it down and it really is awful. I don't know if they have made any improvements in the WHP ring or not, but we will be going no matter the weather! Everyone cross your fingers and don't sing in the shower!!! X

I'm in the river lawn ring again this year so I'm just wondering whether it'll be a river minus the lawn?? I did hear last year though that last year would be the last year they used that ring as it, so I don't know?

Forecast for today & tomorrow there is horrific with thunderstorms and very heavy rain. I just hope that if they do cancel it they do it before we have spent all that money on diesel!!!!!

Don't think the River Lawn will be used. I heard that it was no more as a ring. Fingers crossed for a couple or 3 of dry days

We went to RIHS quite a few years ago. I think it was 2007, and it was very wet. It went ahead, but we were all towed off, which was a total nightmare as they only had one tractor. Took some people 4 hrs to be towed off. I hope they have learnt a lesson from that year. I think though it is much wetter this year !!!!

i spoke to hickstead this morning and they had sunshine but horrid weather forecast tomorrow and friday so they will be doing a ground check on saturday and keeping everyone update via the website etc. Apparently it is "ok" at present and 100% going ahead "at the minute" so fingers crossed. we are traveling from aberdeen so you can imagine 14 hours over 2 days of traveling to be turned away at the gate would not go down well.

I spoke to them this morning too as we have a trade stand there They said the actual show ground is really good the only problems they foresee is getting lorries in and out, so as far as I know it's still going ahead

We're too going quite a distance (takes us 6hrs give or take a bit)! RI isn't usually too bad, however can be quite slippy as its clay not really mud I'm also hoping that with us going two days before the Olympics & coming home the day before, that the traffic won't be too bad!

I wonder if they will use the surface for the coloureds like they did a couple of years ago to try and save the grass ring?

its my first time at the RI... I was absolutely over the moon to qualify (cried like a baby!) and have been really looking forward to it....however, I have to admit after seeing the ground conditions at GY (whos ground is usually fabulous), seeing big shows cancelled throughout the year and the continuing heavy rainfall, Im now actually quite worried and although I am so glad to have the opportunity to compete at this show, at the same time I dont want to travel for several hours only for my boy to slip or pull something and end up injured for the remainder of the season.. x

Due to the wet ground there will be NO CARS allowed on the stable field. this is to help preserve the ground and limit the work burden on our tractors. There will be a riders/owners car park in the adjacent field. Please do not expect to be able to drive a car in to unload equipment/stores!!!
