The way some people keep going on about "will the show be cancelled" almost sounds like people are wanting it to be cancelled!
For goodness sake everyone, have a bit more faith in the fab team down there who are doing what they can to make it as best they can for everyone!
Get your Welles on, leave your moaning heads at home and finally stick a smile on your face! ;D
We are en route and are a couple of hours away still so yes I'll be covered in mud soon enough...but guess what...who cares!!! It's the royal international for goodness sake! It's not every day you're lucky enough to qualify for such a prestigious show!
So come on everyone, stop flapping, keep your negative thoughts quiet and just enjoy the experience (mud)! ;D

Totally agree with Dizzydora. Where is that Dunkirk spirit that our nation is famous for? Due to unforeseen circumstances we are not competing at RIHS this week and are bitterly disappointed to miss it! We would have coped with mud/rain etc and made the best of our couple of days away! The latest weather forecast for Hickstead is actually very good with light rain forecast for most afternoons - but dry overnight and mornings. Temperatures good! Sunday so far shows a dry, quite sunny day! Have fun everyone!

I really hope the show can complete it's entire programme but only if it is SAFE to do so, and by that I mean by not putting equine limbs (which as we all know are too blooming delicate at the best of times!!) under more stress than is really fair. In my opinion the worst possible outcome will be that the show goes ahead, but at the cost of extra injuries, to me that is much worse than the classes having to be cancelled or re-arranged. Everyone will have to make their own decision whether or not they want to compete their animals & are just trying to get an accurate picture of what the conditions are, I don't think this is being negative simply responsible animal owners. GYS (and lots of others), had the courage to cancel their show when they realised it just wasn't safe to continue & I would hope any organising committee would do the same if the circumstances warranted it. In the meantime, there's no harm in people asking what the conditions are like in advance of travelling down there. Fingers crossed the weather holds out for us all though

Oh and turn the clock back 10yrs and it was the norm to get towed onto a field and come off the lorry to be knee deep in mud but everyone just got on with it!
If I didn't think it was safe there's no way I'd put my veteran mare at risk and bring her as she is worth more to me than a show. I trust the staff at Hickstead and I'm sure if it was unsafe they'd cancel it, however from all accounts it's just the lorry parks and stables that are muddy and the rings aren't so bad.
My previous post was meant as something lighthearted but as usual for this site it gets turned into something doom and gloom! Cheer up everyone!!! Lol ;D

Have just had a very long delay at the stable field entrance I am afraid. NOT caused by the mud or my team this time A lorry broke down on the thinest part of our drive and it has taken us 45 minutes to move it to the side due to brakes being locked on. Keep that smile going guys!!!!! Thanks for the good comments, the guys on my team really appreciate it!

well I am packing wellies and sparkly flip flops... cant wait to get there tomorrow and I am sure we will have a great time. If the rings are not safe, then its up to the individuals to put their horses in or not. If you have to wait to be parked, then so be it, no worse than being stuck on the M25 in hour long queues...
At least the ground staff/security are on the ball and doing everything possible to make it easier for all of us all and going over and above the call of duty....
good luck everyone and hope you all have a good time

Whilst you're sat in the queue on the drive, if you have someone with you who can walk down to the stable managers office further down the drive to get your stable number it makes things a little quicker when you actually get onto the show ground. I've just done it and it took me 5 mins....lesson learnt from last year as we were first timers last year so didn't know the set up :-)
Ps. It's dry and warm here at the moment ;D

Well we're here now and all settled in. We drove in ok and got parked up fine. Stables aren't under water and we didn't need to be towed in.
Yes the ground doesn't look pretty as it is brown not green, however it is drying up nicely and as of yet I haven't got any mud on me.
We're going for a walk after we've eaten to have a look at the rings so I'll report back what I find.
So far, the ground at Lincoln show was worse....

Dougle - you are a superstar and I hope you're being paid a fortune for the job you're doing!!! Nobody can predict the future, especially when it concerns the weather, even a few days ahead, so if you go and the ground/parking/rings are good, that's great, but if you go and are under water you have the choice as to whether to compete or not. If you choose not to go, that's your decision too. Let's try to avoid the negative postings about mud/motorway hold-ups etc and make our own individual choices according to the information we have available to us. I reckon the 'powers that be' are doing a jolly good job of keeping everyone posted as to conditions etc and we can all make our own decisions. Good luck to everyone going and here's for some dry weather and sunshine - what's happened to all of life's optimists???

We took a walk round and everything seems to be ok. My ring, ring 2 is fab so no need to worry about that ring. Ring 3 looked good as well, as did ring 4. Didn't get to see the others as it was starting to get dark. I'll update as and when I can tomorrow.
Parking wise- everyone is getting parked in the exit field, we drove on ok but some of the larger lorries who slowed down mid way across got stuck and had to be towed. The ground is still a bit wet in places but these aren't having any new lorries put on them so hopefully they'll dry out for later in the week. Everywhere else is drying nicely and I haven't had any muddy boots since arriving.
Stables- all seem ok from what I've seen, lots of straw is being put own in the walkways which is great as some have been a bit muddy from hat you can see, I certainly didn't have a flooded and wet stable.
The weather is forecast to be nice most of the week with the odd light & heavy shower, so I would say hat as long as we don't get constant torrential rain then everything should be ok.
We're here till Friday morning even though I'm just competing tomorrow so I'll give updates when I can.
It really isn't as bad as some people are making out :-)

Heard from a couple of different sources that the Roger's ring was pretty dire today for the coloured classes.

You will all be very fit after trekking all the way up to the exit park from the rings and stabling.
