Seen some interesting photo's of the lorry park and tractors towing lorries, I can only say that as I'm not going with my lorry, but a deep breath closely followed by a stiff drink seem to be the order of the day when going on. Allow PLENTY of time for getting on and off. And if reports of VOSA pulling rank and demanding lorry wheels are clean before hitting the highway (and they have a serious point here), if there is no power spray facility provided, have a large container of water, a scrubbing brush and a yard brush to hand and do it yourself, it is a legal requirement your tyres are fit for the road, and that includes cleaning mud and associated debris from the tyre treads. It is your responsibility, and I had to stop twice last weekend after being towed off at Kent to do exactly that, the stuff the tyres were throwing out caused the cars in the lane next to me to hang back to avoid mud and small stones hitting their body work.

For the SHP class' in the Jacksons Fencing Ring 5, only half of the ring was being used for the go round, where we only showed one rein and we had to do our shows in the slopey collecting ring!! :/

Ok, sorry about the delay in this up date everyone, I have been a little busy! So a summary of the past 18 hours. Our little "shower" yesterday was infact persistant rain for 6 hrs with a couple of good pour downs! this on the already bare and sticky ground was not a good combination! Ok so the delays that you might have experienced.... -The story about two broken tractors...wrong! -I have 6 tractors on site all day 0500-2200 with an extrta 2 during the morning and evening rush. I will not get any more in as my overall priority is safe towing and safe exiting onto the road. -We have a pressure washer at the exit for getting the heavy mud off which we are staffing and is a legal requirement for you when going onto a public road. This caused a large jam (up to an hour) for exiting vehicles and I am afraid that some arrivials were also caught in this on Wednesday -Stables are not too bad CONSIDERING THE WEATHER. Some are in fact bone dry! -Lots of old straw going down on the horse walks and between stables -Concrete roads in the stable field being swept by my team 3-4 times a day -Please be patient, if you need a tow when leaving, put your hazard lights on and we will be with you ASAP! -You will see comments about "lorries going side ways". This, when towing, can at times be a perfectly normal occurance when tring to turn a corner or with undullating ground.
And the outlook.......it is dry with broken sunshine and a good breeze at the moment (0755hrs) we are forcast a shower later and a little more tomorrow.... Saturday and Sunday are due to be hot and sunny.
Fingers crossed everyone! Please be patient and I am sorry if you have not experienced THE BEST RIHS EVER! We are trying!! Keep smiling and good luck!

DeeJay, I would hate to put a time on it. Most people today have had no more than 5 minutes. However weather tomorrow and volume of incomming weekend traffic could be against us tomorrow so leave 30 minutes to be on the safe side!

We're going as spectators tomorrow and Saturday but think Dougle has been doing a sterling job keeping everyone posted. There's not much more he can do; if you're not happy with the idea of queuing or being towed on or off, don't go! It's not Dougle's fault that the weather for the last goodness how long has been awful.

i really felt for the parking team, they are doing their best in horrendous conditions. Hickstead should have had plans in place if this weather was likely to occur, not just in the parking, but in the rings too. The top rings were being very well maintained during the days, but ring 7, my turnout is better kept than that.

We're having a fab time here since arriving on tues, only time we've had 'proper' mud on our boots was yesterday when it rained for a while...we did however use this as an opportunity to amuse ourselves whilst walking to the stables with haynets, rugs and buckets slipping sideways, gotta keep looking on the bright side!
Been walking round in crocs this evening and ground is doing well. Heading home tomorrow morning so good luck to everyone the rest of the week ;D

Arrived around 4.30pm, no queue at all, sorted stables in minutes & drove straight into our parking space! Could have had 3 tractors if needed, they were all ready & waiting, but the parking crew could obviously see what an excellent driver I am so let me have a go!! Or was it because I have a towing eye on both ends so they can drag me out backwards?!! The roadways are all very clean, stables dry, not overly muddy, nothing you can't walk round. It's nice & warm, & no rain so far!
