I find it impossible to tell until they lose their foal coat - but there are some very clever 'colour' people on here.

My pony was born as a silver dun but turned grey when older, known quite a lot of ponies to change from being dun to grey

thanks for all of your comments, suppose its just a waiting game. My friend has already put a deposit on her and she will be staying with me as a livery long term anyway, so i am very happy

My filly was a yellow dun when she was born with black legs, mane and tail and also a stripe, she's now almost white!

She looks black to me!! Would say she isn't going to go grey either as no googles etc, but sometimes it's hard to tell! I've had a liver chestnut roan colt born this year, came out bright chestnut and was very suprised when he started roaning when he was loosing his coat. He is out of a black mare and by what I thought was a buckskin stallion. Turns out he was buckskin roan!

Looks black to me too? May well go grey you jet have to keep an eye out for white hairs. Oh and carrie your Highland will most likely have been cream dun rather than yellow, they start off dark but then grey with time.

The foal looks black to me too They usually have grey 'goggles' if they are going to turn grey. You have a lovely foal anyway, whatever the colour

I can't see pics from work but I have a grey 4 year old Fell mare who is only now developing her dapples. She was born black and only had about 4 white hairs where a star would be as a clue to whether she would go grey. She was still black under her foal coat and looked black right up until she was 3 when she started to look as if she had roan through her coat.

Ah right thought you meant actual yellow dun, that explains it then.
