Bit busy at mo but will come back to this thread - we have a homozygous roan stallion so all his foals are roan - if you are on FB you can see them here - www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.324223001315.158327.323676406315&type=3As I'm sure you know for her to be grey one parent would need to be grey, she does look very white around her face for a roan but I find some of ours do that with their first shed. Bit biased but roan ponies are the best!! LOL

Can't be grey as no grey parent, as said above, although your roan mare must have had a roan parent to be roan herself. Maybe the palomino was a roan, it can be difficult to see on the pale colour. I too am learning about roan foal coat changes, mine is coming through very very pale so I shall be very interested to see what shade she ends up. Shee does have a grey sire but I'm pretty sure she will be roan and not grey. I'm so, I'm technologically challenged so no current photos I'm afraid.

My roan pony used to look bay in the winter she would then loose the bay bits and go white and fluffy then would go roan again for her summer coat. People used to ask if I had a new pony as she was always changing colour.

Mine is paler in the body currently than the one in your first photo but more obviously true roan with dark head and legs. Your second photo one looks to me as if it could be sabino rather than roan?
