Our American Paint QH mare has been scanned and unfortunately not in foal. She has a number of ovarian cysts that seem to be affecting the egg attaching to the wall of the uterus. This was her second 'service' this year and am now considering the options. She was difficult last year too. I am currently leaning towards leaving her be, let her wean her current foal and bring her back under saddle. My business head is saying I should then sell her and replace with a younger mare (she's 16) but it would need to be to a first class home as I've a wee soft spot for this very quirky girlie. So, Looking for a miracle cure for the cysts or a very special home. Hence the grrrr

ok, put your business head back on. Total the amount you will end up spending on vets, service, keep , travelling etc and then go out and buy yourself a foal, you get to pick exactly what you want! Plus mares find all of the "fiddling" stressful so with your heart put yourself in the mares place

I had a mare with a number cysts, after sending her away to stud (covered in hand) and then scanned to see if in foal (she wasn't) the vet reccomended letting her run with the stallion to stimulate her hormones so ran with him from March till August and had a stunning colt the following April. If she was mine I'd try this and if it didn't work out I'd bring her into work.
