I totally love the Liverpool pellets as they great as we cannot have a large muck heap but I do use them in conjuction with rubber matting. seem to work out cheaper than shavings and if u say they are for a fuel burner you get them cheaper

We do have a version of happy jacks up here and it's called bliss or nedz bed, both widely available in the uk, I had my very greedy pony on it for a spell when on a yard that could only have straw bedding, my pony used to eat all his bed but with bliss and nedz he didn't and have to say I was very impressed with it

David do you mean bliss? If so ring bliss tomorrow and they will tell u the local suppliers, my local tack shop in urmston sells them but thats prob too far for you! I also know they will sell a pallet cheaper than tack shops etc but don't know what the minimum order is? Oh and there is a tack shop in Stockport that will sell and deliver locally but again not sure on the mile radius of delivery before they charge! I will try and get the names now and post them up for you

Follow-on from my previous post... I have always used Liverpool wood pellets (premium ones - tried the economy but preferred the premium for cleaner looking beds and more absorbent..) My last order was from another supplier - more convenient for me as delivered to the door (LWPs hauliers have bigger wagons and can't access the yard so I pick them up from a depot 10m miles away - bit of a faff!) HOWEVER, now the new ones are making up the majority of the beds I am finding them very dusty Ponies coats are thick with fine sawdusty residue. Less absorbent, wee patches turn to paste instead of just a damp looking circle on top and everyhting contained in a solid disc underneath as LWPs do. I can understand now why people have such different views. Price difference on 1000kg was only a saving of about £10, plus my diesel and inconvenience, but now thinking this is a small price to pay! I reckon they generally work out at £3.50 a bag - bedding equivalent to a bale of shavings..

Have used and found to be no cheaper than shavings. Shredded wood fibre is the best and cheapest

Thinking of going on liverpool wood pellets, can't seem to find the economy ones on the website though, or the fuel with the cheaper vat

Also does anyone know how much I'd use roughly. My stables are 10 x 12 and there on rubber matting so I only give a small bed

We just put down 1 15kg bag at a time on our rubber mats to give them a token bed and top up every 3 or 4 days

I use the Wood Pellets from Corley Bio Fuels, I get 100 x 10kg bags at a time, really cost effective at under £2.50 per bag, great in the winter, saves loads of time and no smell in the stable, I keep shavings ontop of the wood pellet bed, not so good in the summer as they do get a bit dusty.

At least wood pellets for me didnt work out I could say. At first I have used straw but it is very dusty and my horse got irritant. Than I have switched to wood shavings. It was much better but the problem with wood shavings bedding it does not absorb good enough and therefore I had to remove a lot while cleaning the box. Then I switched to wheat straw pellets. It absorbs a lot, there is no bad smell of horse urine and the mucking became much easier somehow. also, in comparison with other types of beddings,

I have used the Liverpool wood pellets and put down the bed as they say with 8/9 bags to start off with (depends on size of stable)then top up on a weekly basis. Certainly the muck heap was a lot smaller and it rotted down very quickly and if bought by the pallet as wood burning fuel they are cost effective.
I have to say I prefer the shavings though, I like to see a nice comfy looking bed!

Bit like marmite you either love them or hate them, I personally hated them and definitely didn't think they worked out cheaper as seem to have to use more. Much prefer the large shavings.
