sorry if its wrong place mods... ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG need my head sorting cant seem to make any decisions.... im suppose to be moving two off my little yard soon... the youngster that iv just broke and my old man... my thoughts being.. youngster could do with a school to work in.. would love my old man to be back on my door step ... and my ground has been hammered due to this rain so it will do my field the world of good to have less on it.... right so all makes sence so far... so.... new yard doesnt have winter turnout now as there fields are to wet now! they have a paddock to go out in whilst i muck out... now my old one hates being in and so does the youngster.... pretty much all the yards round me are like that... also the money side of things is looking bleak... having just paid out nearly a grand in vets bills over 3 months im officially broke! i have a car to fix my daughters birthday next sat and christmas looming.... dont get me wrong i can afford to move them but there would be nothing left for anything else.... not till after xmas anyway... help! iv waited 3 years to get on this farm as its in walking distance....dont know what to do for the good now

do you own where you have the horses now? Cos Im a bit confused on that point! If not then walking distance sounds good to me. Im really lucky as I own my own place, most of the land drains well but even here I have fields that are water-logged and there are only 8 ponies on 40 acres that live out all the time. This year is far from the norm and everywhere will be trying to keep fields clear if its a livery yard. You need to think of costs, getting into dodo with money will take away the pleasure you have with your horses. Work out which you can afford and stick to that, you know the old saying.. cut your coat according to your cloth!
good luck and having read through what I had written I'm not certain if I have helped or hindered you.. sorry x

if i was going to be honest i would leave them were they are, i dont agree with no turnout especially for a youngster and a golden oldie they need to stretch there legs more than a turnout paddock. how much turnout are they getting at your yard. even if they are at your yard and not much turnout you can put them out when they days are ok ish through winter. you dont want more vet bills from injury and stress from being stuck in all the time. just sit down and write down the pros and cons and be honest with yourself

i rent it for myself.. but i have two stables going between 4 of mine and a freinds horse... at the moment the oldie stays out with the other oldie and they come in at weekend which works.... hes just been diagnosed with navic in one foot and arthritius in the other.. still sound with no painkillers but he cost me 80 every 4 weeks to shoe... just worried about if this stupid wetaher continues it will speed up the problem see thats my worry(turnout) many years ago i didnt have a choice and i hated it and so did the old man who was 4 at the time he easily loses weight i winter as hes a standardbred so thin skinned so him being in and stressing will make it worse.. think iv answer my own question with him, hes happy as larry and dont want to rock the boat... i was only questioning what i should do with him because all though my ground had drained due to being on a hill im just concerned about how crap this winter will be ... my other two little ponies DO NOT stay out they hate it.. so it will be a juggle.. i struggled last winter as i didnt get the stables till february.. im hoping to build more at some point.. i just dont want another winter like last year!... the youngster is only 3.. at the moment hes doing well, but i have no one to hack with and he wont go on his own not that i would even attempt to.. so my theory was move him somewhere with facilities and other people and i can get his education started.. ... im semi leaning to just moving him.. but again turnout.. he needs it.. nothing worse than having babies in for my sanity theres and there health.... this is child brain!

being really harsh now but if your oldie has all of these problems cannot cope with bad weather but wont be sound in then maybe its his time. Maybe have your youngster in the new place if you want to continue working him and you could ride to your field and turn him out while you do the others or turn away the youngster for the winter and bring back in next spring, then accept you are where you are.

I know how you feel, chin up your boys will be better outside, i know its might not be cheaper but keeps them happy and hopefully wont put you on a downer worrying your horses are too tanked up and getting dangerous with no turnout. it will all be better come march/april time my boy in my signature is a standarbred, they do like the space to stretch their legs.

they do dont they... hes 17 now, iv ad him since he was 3 .. back then he had no winter turnout as i loaned him initially.. he was a night mare.. although i learnt how to manage him he just stresses far to much and the weight drops off .. not worth it.. the land owner has give me free rein to do what i need to make it work with them so looking at shelters etc..
thanks again hun xx
