If it needs to be clipped i.e. it is getting sweaty/uncomfortable, and it is better for the pony's welfare to be clipped, I would clip it, the breed would not be relevant to me.

Our little A gets a really thick winter coat. If we want to keep her in reasonable work during the winter we have to clip her. It's a welfare issue as Louise Dixon says.

I always clip our C, even this year although she proberbly won't be doing much. Personally I don't 'do' moulting and as they are well rugged up anyway, I find it easier. I also find that it can help those who are a little on the tubby side

Are these show ponies though? the pony in question is a show A you see and will be used for showing purposes.

if ur going to clip u want to take everything off apart from legs and face...ideally u would blend the legs in. And yes my sec a is out showing all year round. I don't clip at all though unless really need to. Were going to see how we get on this winter and keep her au natural lol

I clip my welsh D over the winter, I leave the legs on and half the face, this way we can continue to show

I'm fine with any breed of horse or pony being clipped as long as it's to make them comfortable when being worked during the winter. I'm not so keen on clipping ponies for purely cosmetic reasons, particularly youngstock.

I clipped my welsh a last year as he did not lose his coat the previous year until July and then grew it again in August! I did get one negative comment from a judge in February but it was the only one. I hunter clipped him.

I have 2 in work and they will both be fully clipped out (apart from legs) as they both get hot and sweaty when worked. In addition with them both being grey it means that they can be sponged down easily for shows.

I have a Welsh section B I compete on but nothing high level just a bit of sj or dressage competitions here and there. She tends to get very sweaty she was supposed to be clipped a few months ago but it kept being put on the back burner and am hoping to get her clipped tomorrow but I’m having second thoughts because it’s near the end of February I’ve heard rumours that it’s bad to clip them so close to spring but I live in Northern Ireland But it’s still freezing here and won’t heat up for another few months does that kinda change the scenario of not clipping in February?
