Hi want to geld our lovely pba colt and possibly take some straws for freezing but just wondering how old he needs to be. He will be two next year.

they can be viable at any age but usually about 2 yr old they are very firtile but ive had mare get caught by an 8 mnth old colt and my stallion was only 18 mnths when he got buffy pregnant

You would have to licence him anyway before he is gelded, so he would need to be 2 anyway.

check with the AHS re licensing as at one point pbas were not required to be licensed. however storing sperm and then using it can be very expensive, plus even if semen is fertile it may not freeze well. Its best to geld prior to spring as testosterone levels rise in early spring.

hi,they have to be 2yrs with AHS and as larkhaven has said he would need to be licenced to register stock
