I think that you can add another name onto the passport, as thats what we need my coloured years ago but it was with the passport agency.
What happened with mine, it has his stable name and his show name on the front of the passport.
Get your friend to phone CHAPS and the place that the passport is registered with and they will be able to clarify it for you.
My current coloured has got his mircochip registered under his stable name and passport in his show name!

It depends who the original passport issuer is. If it is a basic passport with say the passport agency then changing the name is not a problem. If Chaps issued the original passport then they will not let you change the name. Most societies will let you change the name if there is no prefix/;suffix on the name but Chaps will definitely not if they issued the original passport
whatever you do try to sort any name change before you get an overstamp done by any society as you cannot then change the registered name.

When we overstamped my pony's passport he was sent off to CHAPS as Prince Harry. He came back as Harry XI. We did not ask for this but it has stuck and we use this name for all his competition work.
