petersonandsmith.wordpress.com/2012/11/02/what-are-summer-sores/ive found a sore on my horses lip, the same as in the picture, its completely round, raised at the edges and looks like a cigarette burn for those who cant see picture, im not sure how long it has been there because he is stubborn for letting me look at his mouth and it is right where the top lip touches bottom. but i noticed it a week ago and thought it was just a cut because i couldnt look properly. is it a summer sore? if not what could it be and how do i treat it, do i need to get vet or is it simple? ive also noticed some bumps on his spine, on his wither and then about 30cm down, im thinking it could possible be from the saddle as it looks about the right place for front and back, there is no heat or marks just a little bumpy, does anybody else have this or know what it could be or could it just be the saddle? thankyou for anyones help!! Xx

I have recently bought a horse who was in a rubbish state, she had some rather nasty sores on her belly which could have been the same but when I rang the vet I found out hers were simply a nasty case of rain scald.
Anyway back on topic all I was going to suggest was ring your vet who might tell you could be something totally different but they have of course trained in this stuff for years so should be able to help with some free advice over the phone.

I would agree with Neversaynever and phone your vet to get a confirmed diagnosis.
I had a mare with this during the summer and treat all my gang with Equimax which cleared it up under vet advice. It seems to be an unusual thing in the UK - so it may be something else !
