Right, we are wanting to put my darty in foal in may, we have picked the stallion. Im new to dartmoor breeding so here goes.
her grand mother on her sires side has the same parents as the stallions grandfather on his sires side. if that makes sense.
is that cause not to breed from the two, i know how close dartmoor breeding can be.
a little advise please if anyone had anything to add.

So for the future foal, it would be great, great grandparents appearing twice in her pedigree, so to speak? I don't think I would be concerned about that at all personally, although I don't have any specific knowledge about dartmoors.

Yes great great grandparents. I just wondered how common it is as all my darties are related

I wouldn't worry at all either, perhaps look at what influence those grandparents have had on their stock?

Interesting all this 'line breeding' or 'breeding in the purple'. Happens in dog breeding too. If it were people it would be incest!!

in this case it would not be incest in humans, personally I would never breed in a horse what is illegal for us, remember for every good point you double up on there will be something bad to go with it, usually temperament, digestive or fertility

Interesting all this 'line breeding' or 'breeding in the purple'. Happens in dog breeding too. If it were people it would be incest!! Not at the level the OP is suggesting! Human cousins can marry, who have duplicate grandparents, this is a potential future foal with duplicate great, great grandparents - I am sure I could meet someone who I shared great great grandparents with and have never heard of them before.
