Has anyone had this done on their dog? Our old girl had her first session today, will be interested to see what happens! Done by vet at our pratice who has been on a long course on it.
Came as a puppy from an unwanted litter (not ours) with a "clicky" hip and has been slightly unsound on and off all her life - and on joint supplement all her life too! Now 11yo and old age/arthritis are setting in in both hips which has lead to muscle stiffness and soreness down her back.

Not actual acupuncture, but my Black Russian is under a rehabilitation vet who performs massages along the meridian lines. Acupuncture would have been the next step but this is working well and he is becoming stronger and more supple. She has taught us how to find the meridians so we can do it as home between consultations and he rather enjoys it. This is the clinic we use www.gablecrossvetrehab.co.uk/index.php

Thanks, will check them out. She gets amateur back massage at home - will come up and stand with her tail to you to ask for them!

Cheshire's a bit far for me, I'm in the SE. Currently trying the acupuncture for the muscles coupled with finding a pain killer that works on her for the hips - it's a management system she needs for irreversible old age changes. I know how she feels!

My local vet does acupuncture - one of the vets has completed a training course. I haven't had the occasion to use it, but several older dogs come regularly for acupuncture, and the majority seem to benefit from it, coming off pain killers and anti inflammatories because they improve so much. All the dog owners I have spoken to in the surgery have said positive things about it. Our vet is in Leigh, near Wigan.

Update - dog has had two acupuncture sessions and is brilliant, running up and jumping onto bed/sofa now instead of climbing gradually, long may it last! She has another booked, I will be guided by the vet as to how many she has, I want to make sure it is stabilised. I find the jumping a useful rule of thumb measure of how they are - old collie went from not being able to jump in the back of the estate car to being able again to jump into the much higher LR when I put her on a joint supplement for her hips so it was obviously helping her.
