Sorry though lotti as he would be disqualified as no coat enhancers are allowed at dog shows. LOL No mention of eye shadow and lippy though I presume ;D

Oh that's a shame Dazy but Julie is right anyway - Bruce's flatulence problem wouldn't go down well with the judges anyway Never mind - he's worth a thousand pure breed dogs to me - lets leave Crufts to the professionals eh Bruce?

He is a Black Russian Terrier, yes they do have a breed standard, right down to how many light hairs they are allowed. Met a couple of those at Frankfurt airport.. that is one big scary looking woofer.... They are formidable looking, he is a fab guard dog and when the travellers came knocking a few years back, they got straight in the van and have never been back !! He is very soft though, loves children and never begs for attention when someone comes in, just lets his presence be known and goes back on the yard. He plays with my husband but not with me, his game is jumping straight up in the air to 4ft from a stand still and then doing a 360 degree spin putting my husband on the floor and then standing on him. This is how he "disarms" no bitting involved.

He sounds fab BRT. Are they good with stock and how trainable are they, I know terriers in general are pretty strong willed.

luckoftheirish - that is one fabby dog (not sure about the somewhat demonic grin in the 2nd pic though) - I love Borders anyway. As for smelly dogs - there are certain breeds that really do pong & that's before they've found the fox sh*t to roll in ;D - labradors and basset hounds come to mind - someone suggested to me it's the hair type or grease in the hair - they just smell 'doggy and it's a smell that can linger for days' . Other breeds don't seem to be quite so pungent although I've certainly known gun dogs that have had a major wind problem! Yup I know some of the thinking behind the different poodle clips but there are certain clips that do make me giggle. ;D My friend & poodle owner clips hers herself hence the lamb clips & they certainly don't get shown so she doesn't worry too much about how it looks. Hers are just delightful dogs.

Dear Bruce would get my vote even though his botty burps are particular smelly but for one so small they are incredibly loud.

The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his Tongue.

No he is much more laid back than a terrier, he doesn't have that hunt /kill instinct, he is very territorial and protective of what he regards as his family. They come under the Working Dog category with Kennel Club, even though they are called a Terrier.

He's gorgeous - how many hands high though - he looks big enough to ride!
His coat looks like he may have Scottish terrier in them - there's a particular line that has white hairs come through which is a no no for showing them apparently & they're immensely powerful for a small dog.

in reply to the OP - "true to type" OP?!!! there is NO such thing.......... with a cross you have no idea wtf you are going to get!! labrador x poodles are nice crosses - wouldnt say id encourage BYB's.... but they are sweet dogs. but saying true to type - such as what!? there is no breed standard as they are crosses?! scrufts im sure they would do well......but crufts is for the pedigrees which are (mostly...) true to type!

IMO, leave the doodles of all types alone and stick to your pedigree dogs. Let people enjoy them for what they are, (although the 'dog snobbery' is amusing), once you get a written down breed type you will get the ribbon hunters exaggerating all the written 'traits' to the detriment of the animal, like with alsations, pugs, etc.
Everyone I know personally who has had pedigree dogs has had nothing but problems with them, so as far as I'm concerned you can keep your bit of paper that makes one dog more 'valid' than another. Everyone who cites health problems as a reason not to cross two pedigree dogs of different breeds, needs to think where the health problems are coming from in the first place, that's right, the pedigree dogs!
Why not cross say a pug, with something with a longer, smaller head to reduce the breathing problems and make it easier for the b!tch to have a natural birth? Seems to make sense to me, if there is a market for 'jugs' or whatever and the demand is there, why not?

Even my market mutt puppy, who is not a ped has had his fair share of problems, but is a fabby dog, i see the benefits of the x bred poodle for the hair benefits for allergies, and the best litter my dad ever bred was a springer x cocker litter, that 4 out of 8 went to be working drug / bomb disposal dogs, i think what needs to be looked as its the amount that are bred to make quick money. I think the question should be unless you have homes for the puppies before breeding guranteed, then dont breed.

Interesting. My pugs have no breathing problems. Both have been shown successfully. One has a lifetime qualification to crufts and her stud book number. The other has qualified each year.

Um - got a bit lost in the knowledgeable postings above, but I understand JRT's only became accepted once they were being bred JRTxJRT. Labradoodles are a first cross. Is that right?
