Sorry, I'm of the old school - whether RP, RH or hacks, as a Judge, I don't like to see too much of it.
It could work both ways with Judges. Some like it, some don't. Wouldn't it be best to suss out your Judge before over-doing it? I know it shouldn't affect the judge's decision BUT it would definitely distract me from doing my job. Unless of course it was an evening performance, then I'd try to ignore it as best I could, but it certainly wouldn't help positively with my decision with the placings.
Halfpass, pigsear, ednalad - would it put you off, if you were Judging?

Personally I've never used glitter or been a fan of it, for me showing is all about the horses muscle definition, how it strides, and the over all appearance, if some one came in to my show ring i would think twice about placing them as i think it looks tacky. i don't mind neutral eye makes but glitter takes the biscuit.

Halfpass, pigsear, ednalad - would it put you off, if you were Judging? To be honest it doesn't bother me at all..... you have to move with the times...... which is hard for a man like me stuck in my own ways!!!!! Like to see it in the evening performances, adds a little fun which is what its all about!!! I like a bit of bling myself, even have a pink glittery tie for evening performances!!!!!

I do realise some judges like it, some don't, but to be honest the enjoyment comes first for me, the rosettes second. I never check out judges at all anyway. I've been under one judge who put us champion at one show, and last at another. I beleive it's what's best on the day, and that may or may not be us. I do feel that in some areas of showing, the showmanship side has been replaced by a deadly serious 'correct' side'. I do like to keep a dgree of lightness and humour. My OH shows in a red snoopy tie. He's never had any negative comments from judges. In fact he seems to do very well. We always turn out smartly, and no a pony should not look like a christmas tree, but I don't see what's wrong with injecting a bit of sparkle into showing.

i would not expect people to put it on ponys for their classes put think it is perfectly acceptable for evening performances after all anything that keeps the children interested and involved has to be good , just dont overdo it !

at the end of the day it comes down to personal opinion , my daughter is only eight and i want her to enjoy her showing an evening performance is a big thing to these young kids and obviousley they are nervous, but when we get into the evening performance she is so excited with the fact that her and the pony can have a bit of glitter on, i dont overdue it but i think its adds to the occasion of the evening and makes it that bit more special, and at the end of the days the kids love it, isnt that what showing is meant to be, getting out and having fun and enjoying our ponies ??

Halfpass, pigsear, ednalad - would it put you off, if you were Judging? It would not put me off, but I think glitter should be saved for a evening performance, and less is more, I don't like to see it smothering the animal, but if cleverly done it can add to a overall appearance.

I remember the days when to have just a two colour browband with a tiny hand made, one colour rosette on each side was considered bling. A little glitz can go a very long way indeed. Too much and one risks looking ridiculous. Evening performances only, for ponies and never if the animal is going to be ridden by the judge. Have you any idea how hard it is to get off jackets, gloves, breeches after riding 30- 40......

Personally I do like a little sparkle myself and my stallion wears black glitter in his balck mane and tail etc. My daughter who is 11 would like pink bridles, loads of glitter and princess outfits! Obviously I draw the line but even so, showing is meant to be a little glamorous...isnt it?

I personally am against the glitter thing - but have a 5 year old daughter, so things may change so that she can have a bit of fun - BUT I couldn't bare entering the hallowed ring at HOYS wearing glitter!!! but then that is my opinion - if you are into glitter then go for it!!!!

If animals today were as good as they were in the past then they wouldn't glitter and bling!!! Remind me did Holly of Spring have glitter applied on any of the four times she came down the middle at HOYS? I don't think so!!!!!! I can think of hundreds of multi championship winning horses and ponies that managed without glitter and managed to have a lot of FUN!!! And so did their owners and riders who were not covered in glitter either!!!

The evening performance is the final....... what everyone aims for! Why spoil it with glitter and everything sparkly. Stick to what its all about.... the final of a class of horses and ponies not something from the Blackpool Illuminations!!!!

i suppose its all down too personal taste but i think you will find the vast majority of judges dont like it , ok for fun classes like pairs, fancy dress ect but not realy for serious classes .if you want to put a little shine on try pig oil its not harmfull to the coat its lighter than baby oil ( and doesn't have the smell ) and gleams under lights ,dont put it on unless your pony has a realy good summer coat or it will clog the hair! apply to a cloth first not directly to coat via hand .

its nice for the kids to do an evening performance and have glitter on them and their pony, but for adults its not exactly the be all and end all x

ponies should be shown naturally, mine never have any sparkle/glitter on them, its just like putting un-natural products in our hair. occasionally we put baby oil on but never use any of the sparkle stuff.
