Advise please, our M&M ponies have always gone barefoot with no problems until today! Our B slipped & fell on slippery grass arena. Several people suggested shoes, don't want to have a knee jerk reaction and put them on. Advice / experiences welcomed

Our Section B is always unshod and I wouldn't put shoes on him just for the show ring. Having said that, slipping on greasy surfaces is no fun - hope you and your pony are okay.

my daughter is badgering me to put fronts on our section A... he seems to be one of very few contesting the hoys quals this year that is bare foot. He isnt keen on the stones right outside the front of our house but thats the only issue that I would think of, he hacks fine once past that. Why do they all have shoes on?

We put shoes on our section C to get the right knee action-much to the detriment of our pony who know has boxy feet and contracted heels and very very slight changes around his navicular bone. I now feel with hind sight that had we kept him barefoot his feet would not be as boxy and we would not now be constantly trying to get him 100% sound.

I suppose that depends on what you consider the "right" knee action in the first place, different bloodlines have naturally different movements anyway. Personally, as I breed with the intention of producing riddens, I prefer a little less knee action than some, as I find that those with a slightly flatter trot have a much better natural canter and hence gallop and jump.

My pony moves much better without shoes our lane is stoney but let her pick her way and then once out on the road she is fine. She has been unshod now for 5 months and am very happy with no shoes. I think if you can keep them unshod do it as a natural foot is much better. My c would not go without.

We shoe while we show (especially for grass rings) and leave them without in the winter!
