Is it acceptable to do a flying change instead of coming back to trot across the diagonal? She's a shp if that helps.

No! Must always come back to trot. I have never seen it done at any show,

The point of coming down through trot is to demonstrate obedience and brakes, more important in an SHP than a show pony. if you are doing a serpentine to change the rein then you could demonstrate a flying change in one loop if you want to. Work out a couple of different individual shows that last a couple of minutes and are adaptable to fit in with different rings and the mood of your pony. Avoid making a show too long, remember that a judge will have or will be doing more than just your class.
good luck x

So as long as I showed one change of rein coming back to trot I could show a flying change? I'm going to try it in a rideability class first and see how it goes!

It is not usually done, however I see no harm in trying, I would not have penalized unless I had set a standard show for all competitors, I would use the normal first let us know how it goes, you may set a new trend!

I've seen this done in horse classes and the judges have never been impressed by it, mostly I suppose because they want to see the horse come back sweetly and show off their trot down the diagonal. I can't see anyone penalise it though so long as you show a trot on the diagonal too?

Will give it a go! If it doesn't work well then oh well!
