This was our third time at Equifest and was our best year yet!! Thought that all staff members were very helpful very well organised. We really enjoyed our time there had some fab results including winning the adult and child class. Evening performances was amazing! Could not fault the horsey side to it but on the other hand was very discussed with the behaviour in the disco. On the Friday night there was one man in there who thought it was very funny to repeatedly pull his trousers and pants down and show his bottom to everybody. It is a good job that the 3yo and 8yo old who were in our camp were back at the lorry because it was bad enough that my 16yo daughter had to witness this behaviour. So could people just remember that you are at Equifest a HORSE SHOW WITH CHILDREN THERE NOT ON A NIGHT OUT DOWN TOWN!!! It's the small minority that ruin it for the rest. But apart from this we really enjoyed our week! Big well done to the Equifest team!

I wasn't there this year but after hearing all the stories I have come to the conclusion that people who don't have a serious interest in competing their horses are going for a p**s up and cheap holiday. Friends of friends all go down as it's free to camp and just £10 for and extra car pass. Where else can you go camping for a tenner with no restrictions on where you camp either? I know it is hard to control and unfortunatly I see the only way of controlling it is to have limited passes for people entering and anyone extra will have to pay. I don't know what the answer is for Equifest. We have always had a good time but don't think I would be interested in going enless they do something about the problems as I camp and would be gutted to have my tent trashed and no where to sleep :-(

All the problems I've heard and read about could probably be stopped if there was a ban on alcohol? Or can people not have a good time without getting off their faces?

Ive not had a drink for 2 years! In fact the last time I did have a drink was equifest for my birthday 2 years ago lol. I agree but don't think it will ever happen :-)

Enjoyed the show as usual. Great WHP courses , inviting and enjoyable so a bonus for young, novice and new partnerships. Nice friendly staff, with lovely gate and security guys. BIG GRIPE: red area B, what a joke, when you are pushing a pram and have 2 x children in cradle and nursery classes, spent hours walking and checking how long classes would take. ( the lady ring steward was fab tho) Wont bother joining again if this is not changed.

Equifest is a lovely show and it is the highlight of our year. We are already planning for next year. Betsy and her team do a fantastic job, the judges we had all bar one were encouraging and enthusiastic, the stewards were all amazing especially the poor chap who got totally saturated on friday morning so we could do our coloured restricted classes and the lovely lady in the Burghwallis ring on saturday for the coloured home produced - they need special mentions. It is, as always, the small minority of people who don't know how to behave which spoil things for the majority. Mostly those who cannot hold their drink, their tongues or their dogs. Those who cannot dispose of their toilet waste sensibly (or their dog poo) and those who seem to attend, not to show, but just to be loud and cause trouble. The girl called Molly with the boyfriend called Tom who screamed the entire yelow area campsite down at 2am one morning thankfully took herself home before anyone could eject her (nothing like airing your dirty laundry at full volume with repeated expletives to make your point is there?) There are always those who bend the rules, misbehave and ruin things for others and unfortunately equifest attracted a few more than usual this year. The break ins, thefts and abuse of peoples belongings makes me very sad, This is a horse show where we should all be attending with the aim of showcasing our lovely ponies and having a good time not deliberately spoiling it for others. Be vigilent and report these people if you know who they are - it could be you next time. If we all look after each other then this sort of behaviour can be eradicated.
Perhaps more on the spot fines for those who seem unable to keep their dogs on leads and clean up after them, more security, more checks on people attending etc and ask drunk and obnoxious individuals to leave the showground, ban them from the following year etc, maybe a wrist band system with wristbands issued on arrival and daytrippers attending to watch get a different dated wristband which only lasts for that day and for which they need to pay a small sum for. wristbands can then be checked frequently - no wristband = removal from the showground. yes more hassle, yes more cost but maybe a bit safer. Sad world isnt it?

I have been going to Equifest since it started but as I live locally have not stayed over for a couple of years but did this year. Its a wonderful event and any to the horsey family a very reasonably priced family holiday. I do think now it has got to the stage that extra cars and tents should be charged for. In theory for the cost of a stable for the week and the price of a couple of entries you could have a lorry, a tent and as many people as you would like in. Whether you could have ticket for the tent and charge per tent or marquee, at a local camp site you would be charged per pitch and there would be an adult and child charge on top of that which could add up to £30 a night in August. I think the money generated should be spent on extra security, patrols at night and making sure the Gate is manned at all times. I stayed at a few of the big shows over the years and the ones that have a large amount of older children, plus alcohol then add a certain amount of freedom which they would not normally have make a volatile cocktail. Having done stints at PC camps and youth club I know that the most well brought up children can become little devils given the right circumstances and that's not including the less than benign outside influence of some adults. It doesn't help that you do not really know anyone so have no idea whether people near stables or horseboxes have a right to be there. I had a lovely time and I am sure I will be back next year. Thanks to Betsey and the team for making it all possible.
