the test states to transition to working trot on the 20m circle between X and c does this mean I should begin trotting as I hit the centre line on my circle with x to my left and c to my right so I am betwwen them?

A 20m circle should go through x, so at no time should you be between c and x. You should do the transition on the circle just after touching x.

I ride this as come down the centre line at C and then trot at X and continue the circle x

Like kayleigh says - actually ride over x on your circle then you have till before c to transition into trot.
I did this test a few times last year, I trotted about 2 strides after x and was never told it was wrong.

Basically you should be doing your trans to trot anywhere in the second half of your circle, but best to ask for it sooner rather than later ie a few strides after x
