I have just started backing a recently bought irish draught. She is completely unreactive!!! Voice commands, body language, flinging ropes, cracking lunge whip, hitting lunge whip. Nothing!!! I am experienced. Broken in 10+ horses/ stubborn ponies. But I have no where to start with this mare. Baught her as she was so placid. Starting to think she is too placid!!! Not a bad bone in her body. any help gratefully recieved.

I ve had one or two like this and have found by passing the lunging best option manged to long rein a little with determination but then got on board much sooner than the norm and got them hacking out in company to start with getting them when ready to take the lead and then when they got the jist of going forward started the schooling and they would then also go on to lunge fine and both became nicely forward rides .

it can be a characteristic with IDs
are you certain that nobody has tried to break her before?
if you do need to liven her up try tying a plastic bag to the end of a lunge whip, dont hit but show it behind her. However I do agree with cayo.
