I am currently re backing my shetland mare to come back into work after 4 year break. She has been sweet as a nut. The only problem i am having her is getting her settled in her mouth, i do not want to start putting humans on her when she is not happy in her mouth when long reining. Lunging she is fine. She has a problem when i am asking her to turn or stand etc. I so far have tried Jointed Fulmer, Happy mouth french link fulmer, Jointed Loose ring snaffle and i am now trying a loose ring with narrow mouth peice, What bit would you all try next??

Assuming you have already had her teeth done recently and back checked ? Our shettie likes a straight bar mouthpiece with a small port as she has quite a big tongue . The mouthpiece isnt to thick either . Just make sure you rule out pain first . Good luck

Agree with the above. I'm not keen on using single jointed bits. Our Shettie likes straight with a small port. Try a thin Cambridge snaffle / magic bit.

I agree with the teeth, but also if she's not happy in her mouth possibly a thin but isn't ideal as it's sharper than a chunkier bit...... When u lunge do u lunge in side reins or anything that keeps a consistent contact on the mouth?
