Hi all, I am looking to buy my Dartie a new saddle. Can anyone tell me what make, model, size and width of saddle that you have for your Dartmoor. Just trying to get an idea for which make would be best.

Bigger Darties might take a 16", larger in the diddy Fyld models (all saddles vary in panel length). Mostly I fit them with very flat treed 15" saddles, the odd one can only take a 14". Some need a decent depth of rear panel, look at the curve of the back, if very flat then a shallow rear gusset would be okay, but the more height to the wither, or if there is any muscle damage at the back, the deeper the rear gusset required. Oh and a heavier rider usually needs a deeper rear gusset |

My ancient Calcutt saddle (one of those thats fits everything!) and a Fylde Samantha XW.

sbloom, thank you very much for that, it has helped a lot. I would like to stick to the Native Pony range as both my Highlands go really well in them, they are lovely saddles. He would most definitely manage a 16", he currently has a 15.5" but I am not sure if it's wide enough for him, I have a saddle fitter coming over to the islands in two weeks so I will see what she says. Can the Native Pony saddles be widened?
Thank you all, it's great to hear from others with the same breeds so I can get an idea as he is the only Dartmoor on the island.

mine are all in 16" saddles, we use a silhouette & old style, Fylde Hayden. 9" d to d.

We have 3 dartys, 1 is in 15inch medium wide fylde Samantha, other 2 are in 15inch wide Samantha
