I am looking for ideas for the best Pelham bit for my highland pony, who likes to put his tongue over the bit in a go round on occasion. He liked the NS Verbindend snaffle but needs a Pelham for the show ring. He doesn't like the Tranz Angled NS Pelham by the way and cannot cope with a double set either. He loves the salox that the NS bits are made from too. I am desperate to find something that he is truly happy in but as I have lots of bits now in my collection of tried and failed, I don't really want to waste any more money on stuff that doesn't work, so thought I'd ask all you horse Gossiper's to delve into your tonnes of experience please.

It has taken me 3 years to find a bit my fell likes, he has a large tongue, small mouth and is very very soft and light, He was in a ported show pelham covered in bit wrap but it didn't give sufficient tongue relief, I trialed the Neue schule warmblood pelham and it's the best decision I've ever made for him! They are expensive but the trial ensures its the right bit, for me it has been well worth the money. People seem to have had good results with the hartwell pelham too which is a much cheaper option but my pony doesn't like a fixed ring and I much prefer the neater look and warmer mouth piece of the neue schule

Was just about to type the answer that Kerbeck has given! The NS Warmblood Pelham is brilliant try it. The port is larger and angled forward - its much more comfortable and leaves loads of room for a fleshy tongue.

Mine was exactly same as your, liked the Trans snaffle, but not the same in pelham!!? I tried all sorts, just about to give up, then tried the Neue Schule waterford pelham and she goes well in it.

Thanks so much everyone, was thinking along same lines as NS Warmblood Pelham, so am going to hire one to try first. Someone also recommended Myler 2604 Pelham, but no experience of Myler bits, so not sure.
silvershadow - finding a bit like yours is like looking for hens teeth, it's fab, but I can't find one like it for love nor money!
Any alternative suggestions still very much welcomed.

Thankyou so much everyone - food for thought on all different types. Someone has also suggested a Happy Mouth Mullen Mouth Pelham, as maybe he hates the metal aspect of a bit. Any thoughts on these please?

My Veteran TB × ID adores his happy mouth Mullen pelham. (Actually so does my Hunter & Aunts Welsh D) He has enoromous great fleshy lips and a double just doesnt work for him! Have you tried the NS Verbindend pelham? Theres a company on Ebay called CoswaldSports, they make a CS tounge saver pelham, its identical to the verbinded & much cheaper. I also love the KY Rotary Double joint bits, my unabearably fussy Warmblood has a pelham, wilkie & full cheek, there the only bits shes comfortable with & actually goes nice in.
