I have recently started riding out a bit more than what I am used to - not ridden for a while. If I ride out for more than half an hour at a time, my ankles really start to ache. I already use flexi stirrups, so just wondered if light weight stirrup irons may help me? Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same, haven't ridden for a couple of years. My problem was cured by simply adjusting length of stirrups by a hole or two. It's just your lower leg and ankle objecting to being used differently!!

Definitely change the stirrup length. Put them down 1 or 2 holes and see how you feel

Agree with others. Stirrups are too short or you're forcing your heels down.

I have the same problem, had it for years, it's not my stirrup length i ride long in a dressage saddle and i'm definitely not forcing my heels down. I just take pain killers before i ride lol. Used to have to get off half way through lessons and run around the arena a few times to loosen up!

I dont know your age so please accept my apology if your only a youngster lol. It may be just as said that your ankles arent used to the extra exercise but I would consider getting your joints checked out too. I have problems with my joints and especially when the weather is damp or cold - a bit like rheumatism. In the mornings i have to walk on my tiptoes on one foot in particular until my joints relax and get going again !! I hope you dont have any joint problems but please dont ignore it if it doesnt get any better.
